QiNetix Registry Keys and Parameters
Overview
In order to perform advanced
troubleshooting and other environment-specific modifications, QiNetix uses
Windows registry keys or an appropriate file in the Unix and NetWare file
systems.
This document describes
such parameters and how to modify them. Note the following convention used in this document:
- Standard registry keys and parameters are created during the installation of the
specific QiNetix components.
- Optional registry
keys and parameters are manually created by the user.
Windows
Back up the registry before you edit it. You must also understand how to
restore the registry if a problem occurs.
|
WARNING:
|
Using Registry Editor
incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require a reinstall of the
operating system. Neither Microsoft nor CommVault Systems can guarantee
that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be
solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Contact your software provider if you have any questions about these
registry keys.
|
Unix/Macintosh
It is recommended that you make a backup copy of the appropriate .properties
file, before editing it. This will help you to restore the appropriate
parameters if a problem occurs.
NetWare
It is recommended that you make a backup copy of the appropriate
GALAXY.INI file, before editing it. This will
help you to restore the appropriate parameters if a problem occurs.
Registry Keys
The following section provides a list of some of the useful registry
keys. If you know the name of the registry key, use the Search facility in your
browser to locate the information. Given below is a list of links under which
the registry keys are categorized:

When enabled, the Job Manager will terminate a
conflicting job, i.e., a new backup job that is initiated for
the same subclient as a job that is currently running.
Note that the Job
Manager will only terminate a conflicting job if the new backup job encompasses
the earlier job and if the earlier started job has yet to
transfer any data to media. If these conditions exist, then the
earlier job will be killed by the system and
replaced by the newer job. To be more encompassing indicates that a FULL
backup can kill jobs such as incrementals, differentials and other fulls;
however,
incrementals will not be able to kill fulls. If the current job has already
started transferring data, then the normal queue rules for the new job will
apply.

Description

This key is used to set the maximum number of
simultaneously running streams. Many simultaneously running
streams can cause the CommServe to overload. Therefore, the CommServe specifications

Description
|
This key is used in conjunction with the
high watermark value. When the high watermark value has
been reached, the Job Manager will wait until the low watermark, if set, is reached

Description

This key determines the timeout, in seconds,
that an Oracle third-party command
line backup job will wait for a resource to allocate streams before the job
fails. If a resource is not available after the specified number of seconds
has elapsed, the backup job will fail. If this registry key is

OraFailToQuit
(optional) |

Value Type (Windows only)
|
String Value |
|
Valid Range
|
Y or N
Where:
Y prevents failover from occurring (i.e.,
does not look for another previous backup image);
N allows the system to fail over in the
event a backup piece is inaccessible or corrupted. |
|
Default Value
|
When this key is not present, restore failover
will be allowed for an Oracle 10g client. |
|
Created in
|
User-created in the computer in which the Oracle 10g
iDataAgent is installed. |
|
Description
|
This key prevents restore failover from
occurring for an Oracle 10g client when the key is created and its value is
set to Y. It is useful to avoid job delays
caused by the failover process, when the system attempts to locate another
or previous image of a backup piece, which is inaccessible or corrupted,
that is needed to complete the restore. It is also useful for avoiding the
initiation of additional command line restore jobs for each failover
attempt.
NOTE: When an Oracle 10g command line restore job fails and the OraFailToQuit registry key is not present or is set to a value of N, then a new command line job will be started for each failover attempt. To avoid this, you can set the value of this key to Y to prevent restore failover from occurring.

This key needs to be set up on the
Exchange Server if the user’s mailboxes and accounts reside in a
non-default domain or multiple domains. This is often the case when child
domains are in use. |
| Description |
In this case a key called ADServerList should be setup under
MSExchangeMBAgent.
This key can be setup in two ways, of which the first method is
recommended:
1) Add one string value for each domain. For example if there is a
child domain child1.example.com with users, and also users in the top
level domain example.com, then both these domains should be specified as
string values under this key. The value names are not important.
2) If the above method fails, then another method is to list the
hostnames of the AD Servers or their IP addresses as string values under
this key. Again, the value names are not important.
