Setting Up Alerts and Notifications - Save to Disk

Overview

You can send alerts as a text file to a local directory or a network share which can be accessed by the CommServe computer and other computers in the network. This is particularly useful in obtaining a list of failed attempts in an operation.

Following is an example of a Save to Disk notification alert:

Configuration

No prior configuration is required to generate Save to Disk notification alerts.

Generation

Use the following steps to save the notifications to disk (Local directory or Network share) for alerts:

  1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, click Alerts.
  2. In the Alerts dialog box, click Add.
  3. On the General Information page, enter a name for the alert in the Display Name box.

    Do not use special characters in the Display Name box because the name of the alert is used in the file path when the alert is saved to the disk. For Windows file naming conventions, go to the Windows Dev Center - Desktop website, Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces - Naming Conventions.

  4. Select a Category and Alert Type, and click Next.
  5. On the Entities Selection page, select the clients or client groups to associate with this alert and click Next.

    To exclude specific client groups from receiving alert notifications, mark the client group with an 'X' mark.

  6. On the Threshold and Notification Criteria Selection page, select the notification criteria to be used and click Next.
  7. On the Notification Type(s) Selection page, click Save to Disk to send the alert to a local directory or network share.
  8. Click the Select [Save to Disk] for notification check box and do the following:
    • By default, the alert is in HTML format. Select TEXT to create a text based alert.

      Also, in the Add Token box, select the token from the list if you wish to customize the notification. See Available Alert Tokens for the list of available tokens.

    • By default, the alert is saved in the C:\Program Files\Commvault\Simpana\alerts directory.

      If you want to save the alert in a network share, click Use Network Share and specify the Location. Also, click the Change button to provide the account information to access the network share.

    • Click Next.
  9. Review your selections on the Summary page.
  10. Click Finish.
