Scheduling Install Updates in the CommCell

Scheduling jobs help to ensure that the CommCell operations are automatically performed on a regular basis without user intervention.

Use the following steps to schedule install update operations from the CommCell Console.

  1. Right-click the <CommServe> node in the CommCell Browser and click All Tasks | Add/Remove Software.

    Click Install Updates.

  2. Select the client computers for which you want to schedule the installation of automatic updates.

  3. Select the Reboot Client check box to have the system automatically reboot the client and/or MediaAgent computers if a reboot is required.

  4. Click the Job Initiation tab. Click Schedule and then click the Configure button.

  5. In the Schedule Details dialog box:
    • Type a name for the schedule in the Schedule Name box.
    • Click Weekly.
    • In the Start Time box type or select the schedule start time.
    • Click to select the days of the week.
    • Specify Repeat to run the job repeatedly on the day in which the job is scheduled to run.
    • Click Options to configure the advanced options.

  6. In the Advanced Schedule Options dialog box:
    • Specify Range of recurrence.
    • Select a Time Zone from the dropdown list.
    • Click OK.

Enabling Pre-Check Operations During Update Installation

By default, the CommServe optimizes the installation of updates on client computers by skipping a set of pre-check operations.

Pre-check operations evaluate the readiness of the clients before the updates are installed. These operations include the following readiness checks:

  • Client connectivity check

    Verifies whether the client can communicate with the CommServe.

  • Disk space check

    Verifies whether the client has sufficient disk space for the updates to be installed.

  • Package synchronization

    Verifies whether the updates are already installed on the client.

You can enable the pre-check operations based on your CommCell environment needs. When enabled, the update installation time might increase.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe computer and click Properties.
  2. In the CommCell Properties dialog box, click the Additional Settings tab, and then click Add.
  3. In the Add Additional Settings on Windows Client dialog box, specify the following details:
    1. In the Name box, type nNoConnectionLimitsForPushUpdate.

      The Category and Type details fill automatically.

    2. In the Value box, type 1.
    3. Click OK.
  4. In the CommCell Properties dialog box, click OK.
