Cloud Storage Explorer Tool

Cloud Storage Explorer tool provides the ability to connect to the cloud library and explore its contents. Use this tool to verify the contents of backup data on the cloud.

This tool can also be used to verify connectivity to cloud storage. If a cloud library cannot be reached, then the connection status appears on the tool's status bar.

Cloud Storage Explorer tool is available on the CommServe and Windows MediaAgent computers.

Starting Cloud Storage Explorer Tool

  1. In Windows Explorer, go to the <software installation path>\Base folder, and then double-click CloudStorageExplorer.exe.

    CloudStorageExplorer window will display all the cloud libraries configured in the CommCell environment.

    Click the cloud library that you wish to explore. The connection status will be displayed in the tool's status bar.

  2. Press the F7 key.

    The size and number of files in the bucket will be displayed in the status bar.

Cloud Test Tool

Cloud Test tool provides the ability to test connectivity by uploading and downloading data to the cloud library . This tool can also be used to download archived data from cloud storage.

Cloud Test tool is available on the CommServe and MediaAgent computers.

Starting the Cloud Test Tool

Windows Operating System

  1. In Windows Explorer, go to the <software installation path>\Base folder, and then double-click CloudTestTool.exe.

    The command prompt appears.

    CloudTestTool, Version 11.0.0

    This program will perform simple cloud server tests for you.
    Press <ENTER> to begin...

UNIX Operating System

  1.  At the UNIX prompt # or [root@servername], type:

    [root@servername]# /opt/commvault/Base/CloudTestTool

    The CloudTestTool prompt appears.

Testing Connectivity with the Cloud Test Tool

Use the following procedure to test the ability to connect to a cloud storage library and to read and/or write content.

  1. Start the Cloud Test Tool.

    CloudTestTool, Version 11.0.0

    This program will perform simple cloud server tests for you.
    Press <ENTER> to begin...

  2. Press Enter.

    A list of cloud storage devices (vendor types) similar to the following is displayed:

  3. Type the number associated with the cloud storage device that you want to test and then press Enter.
  4. Type the information in the following credential related prompts:

    Example for Amazon S3

    Enter Host Name [s3.amazonaws.com] :
    Enter Access Key ID : MyAccessKey
    Enter Secret Access Key : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Note: For AWS IAM Role user enter the following:

    • In the Enter Host Name prompt, press Enter to accepts the default (s3.amazonaws.com) host name.
    • In the Enter Access Key ID prompt, enter the IAM:<role_name>. For example, IAM:MyRoleName.
    • In the Enter Secret Access Key prompt, enter N/A.
    • In the Enter Bucket prompt, enter the name of the appropriate bucket.

    A summary of the credentials, similar to the following, is displayed when you press Enter after adding the bucket.:

    Server Host : s3.amazonaws.com
    Access Key ID : MyAccessKey
    Secret Access Key : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Bucket : MyBucketName

    Press '1' to continue or '0' to back to the previous menu [1]:

    Note: For AWS IAM Role user enter the following:

    The following menu options for operations on the cloud vendor are displayed:

  6. Type 1 and then enter the information in the following prompts:

    Enter the value of the file size <1MB - 4096MB> : 1

    Enter the value of sub-chuck size (0=default, 1MB - 256MB) :

  7. Press Enter to delete the data that was written during the cloud storage test and return to the previous menu.

Downloading Archived Data with the Cloud Test Tool

This procedure downloads a copy of the data from the cloud storage. You can use this copy of the data to troubleshoot a volume or a chunk.

Before You Begin

If you are downloading the data from the Archive, Hot/Archive, or Cool/Archive Storage Class, perform steps 1 through 9 described in Restoring Data from Archive Cloud Storage Platforms Using Command Line to download the data from the archived storage classes.

Procedure

  1. Start the Cloud Test Tool.

    CloudTestTool, Version 11.0.0

    This program will perform simple cloud server tests for you.
    Press <ENTER> to begin...

  2. Press Enter.

    A list of cloud storage devices (vendor types) appears.

  3. Enter the number of the cloud storage device that you want to select, and then press Enter.
  4. Enter your credentials to access the cloud storage, and then press Enter.

    Select operation:
     1. Upload/Download Speed Test
     2. Upload Test File
     3. Download Test File
     4. Download and Convert Archived Data
     5. Copy Archived Data to another Cloud Server
     6. Upload multiple test files
     7. Delete the temp folder used for Uploading Multiple Test Files
     8. Access Functionality Check
     9. Reset Canned Access Control Lists ACL on Bucket to private

     0. Choose different vendor.

    Operation [1]:

  5. Type 4, and then press Enter.

    Select operation:
     1. Upload/Download Speed Test
     2. Upload Test File
     3. Download Test File
     4. Download and Convert Archived Data
     5. Copy Archived Data to another Cloud Server

  6. Type the source path of the volume, and then press Enter.

    For example:

  7. Type the path of the local directory where you want to download the archive, and then press Enter.

    For example:

    C:\Download

    The archive is downloaded to the location that you specified.

    Select operation:
     1. Upload/Download Speed Test
     2. Upload Test File
     3. Download Test File
     4. Download and Convert Archived Data
     5. Copy Archived Data to another Cloud Server
     6. Upload multiple test files
     7. Delete the temp folder used for Uploading Multiple Test Files

Perform Functionality Checks

This procedure checks the functionalities, needed by the  Commvault software on cloud, to make sure that it is working properly. You can use this test for troubleshooting purposes. It can be used to check the functions on Amazon S3 compatible servers.

This procedure lists, uploads, download, and deletes files and folder.

  1. Start the Cloud Test Tool.

    CloudTestTool, Version 11.0.0

    This program will perform simple cloud server tests for you.
    Press <ENTER> to begin...

  2. Press Enter.

    A list of cloud storage devices (vendor types) appears.

  3. Enter the number of the cloud storage device that you want to select, and then press Enter.
  4. Enter your credentials to access the cloud storage, and then press Enter.

    Select operation:
     1. Upload/Download Speed Test
     2. Upload Test File
     3. Download Test File
     4. Download and Convert Archived Data
     5. Copy Archived Data to another Cloud Server
     6. Upload multiple test files
     7. Delete the temp folder used for Uploading Multiple Test Files

     9. Reset Canned Access Control Lists ACL on Bucket to private
