CommCell Migration Overview
CommCell Migration is the process of moving clients and MediaAgents from one CommCell to another to perform cross-server restores or on a permanent basis to allow backups to continue in a new CommCell. This eliminates the need to uninstall and reinstall and recreate all the associated components for a client and MediaAgent.
When you move a client from one CommCell to another, the individual entities associated with a client, such as agents, backup sets, and subclients, move from source CommCell to the destination CommCell. The existing backup information is also moved from the source CommCell to the destination CommCell.
CommCell migration is disabled by default for V11 installations. The CommCell migration must be performed for specific operations only. For more information, see Operations Support for CommCell Migration.
To perform CommCell migration, you must submit a request and get approval from the administrator. For more information, see Enabling CommCell Migration and Global Repository Cell (GRC) on a CommServe Computer.
