Controlling the File Types Allowed for Upload to Edge Drive

After adding and configuring at least one Edge Drive client, you can control the types of files that users are permitted to add to Edge Drive.

To control the file types for upload from the Web Console, mobile devices, or local virtual drive on your laptops, configure the ExcludedExtensionsForEdgeDriveUpload global parameter in the CommServe database.

To control the file types that can be added to the offline Edge Drive folder on your laptop, you can use the content filter options in the Edge Drive subclient policy.

Before You Begin

Before you can begin this procedure, you must have created an Edge Drive client. See Creating and Configuring an Edge Drive Client.

Excluding the File Types for Upload

  1. On the CommServe computer, add the ExcludedExtensionsForEdgeDriveUpload global parameter with the file extensions that must be excluded for upload:

For instructions on adding the global parameter from the CommCell Console, see Add or Modify an Additional Setting.

Refer to the following table for applicable values:

Type the file extensions separated by commas. For example, .dll, .bat.

  2. Restart the IIS services on the Web Server computer.

Configuring the Content Filters for Edge Drive

Content filters can only exclude the file types from the offline Edge Drive folder on your laptop.

  1. In the CommCell Browser, click Policies > Subclient Policies.
  2. Click the subclient policy for the Edge Drive client that you want to use.

Edge Drive subclient policies have the following naming convention: <Edge Drive client name> Subclient Policy

  3. Right-click Default subclient and then click Properties.
  4. Click Filters and then add filters according to the file types you want to allow in Edge Drive.

The following examples describe common filters to include in Edge Drive:

Exclude video files from Edge Drive

    • In the Exclude these files/folders/patterns list, type the following:

      *.mp3, *.mp4, *.avi, *.flv

Only allow Microsoft Word files in Edge Drive.

    1. In the Exclude these files/folders/patterns list, type * to exclude all file types.
    2. dIn the Except for these files/folders/patterns list, type *.doc, *.docx to allow Microsoft Word files.
