Fault Tolerance

Fault tolerance for backup operations is supported with use of the following features:

Alternate Data Paths

Alternate data paths provide the facility to automatically switch over to an alternate data path, when one of the components in the assigned data path is not available. In addition to ensuring the successful completion of data protection jobs, alternate data paths utilize available libraries and drives in the event of failure or non-availability of these resources.

For more information, see Alternate Data Paths (GridStor).

Clustering is a way of organizing your hardware and software in order to provide added measures of performance, reliability and fault tolerance. The CommServe, MediaAgent, and certain Agents take advantage of the failover protection afforded to virtual servers within the clustering environment. If an active node fails, the software will still be able to function from the node that has not failed. Regardless of the hosting node, the software will continue to perform data protection operations. In addition, this configuration allows you to apply Updates and Service Packs in a rolling fashion, to one physical node at a time.

For more information, see Clusters.

Job Restartability

Job restartability provides the facility to automatically restart jobs when they are in a waiting or suspended state. Operations such as auxiliary copy, data aging, data protection, data recovery, disaster recovery backup, delete stubs, online and offline content indexing, and media refresh jobs can all be configured to restart.

For more information, see Job Restartability.
