Configuring A Subclient to Archive Data - OnePass for Hitachi NAS (BlueArc) and Isilon

Subclients contain information about what data is backed up. You can create a user-defined subclient to archive specific files.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click Client Computers and click Add New Client.

The Add New Client dialog box appears.

  2. From the File System ribbon, click the NAS/Network Share icon.

The Add NAS/Network Share Client dialog box appears.

  3. Select the NDMP check box.
  4. Select the Network Share check box and select the Windows check box.
  5. On the NDMP Properties tab, make the following selections:
    1. In the NDMP Server Hostname box enter the fully qualified NetApp file server name.
    2. In the NDMP Login and NDMP Password boxes enter the NetApp file server login credentials.
    3. Click the Detect button.
    4. Once the Supported Features list is populated Click Detect.
    5. Click OK and a pseudo NAS client is created.
  6. In the Client Name box, type a name for the new Network Share client and in the Host Name box, type the host name for the Network Share client.

The name you specified in the NDMP Server Hostname box overrides the name in the Host Name box.

  7. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > pseudo-client > Windows File System.
  8. Right-click Windows File System, and then click Properties.

The Windows File System Properties dialog box appears.

  9. On the Data Access Nodes tab, under Available Data Access Nodes, select the Windows data access nodes that will participate in the backup operation, and then click Add.

Tip: You can set data access nodes at the agent level or at the subclient level. The data access nodes set at the subclient level take precedence in such cases.

    Notes:

    • You can select a client or a client group (containing Windows clients) from the available nodes list.
    • All of the participating backup nodes must be at a minimum of Service Pack 12 or later versions.
  10. The default subclient has the root directory as the subclient content. Therefore, an archive job run on the default subclient will result in backing up and archiving the entire file server.

It is recommended to run the first backup and archive of selective data files by creating a user defined subclient with specific content.

  11. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System > backup_set.
  12. Right the backup set (archive set), point to All Tasks, and then click New Subclient.

The Subclient Properties dialog box appears.

  13. In the Subclient Name box, type a name.
  14. On the Data Access Nodes tab, under Available Data Access Nodes, select the data access nodes that will participate in the backup operation, and then click Add.

    Notes:

    • You can set data access nodes at the agent level or at the subclient level. The nodes set at the subclient level take precedence in such cases.
    • For a newly configured client or an upgraded client that uses indexing version 2, you must select a version 11 proxy computer. Commvault version 10 proxy computers are not supported.
    • You can select a client or a client group (containing Windows clients) from the available nodes list.
    • Ensure that you select the Allow multiple readers within a drive or mount point check box on the Performance tab and increase the number of data readers as needed based on the number of data access nodes added.
    • Ensure that you select the Reconcile Backup check box on the Advanced Options tab.
    • All of the participating backup nodes must be at the same service pack level.
  15. On the Content tab, click Add Paths and enter a CIFS path that belongs to the client created.
  16. Click OK.

You can use the same content across different subclients within the same backup set. The default subclient, skips the content specified in the other subclients within the same backup set.

  17. In the Impersonate NT User dialog box:
    1. Enter the User Name in the User Account box
    2. Enter the Password in the Enter Password box.
    3. Confirm the password in the Confirm Password box.
    4. Click OK.

Use the same credentials for all subclients created on your CommCell Console. If you plan to use different credentials, the file server must have access to those credentials.

  18. Make sure that the impersonate user credentials has read and write permissions to the data residing on the CIFS share.
  19. Click Advanced.
  20. The Advanced Subclient Properties dialog box appears.
  21. In the Retention Mode list, click Job Based Retention.
  22. A confirmation box appears.
  23. Type Confirm in the confirmation box and click OK. For more information, see Job-Based Retention.
  24. On the Disk Cleanup tab, select the Enable archiving with these rules check box and configure archiving rules. For more information, see Configuring Rules for Archiving.
  25. On the Content tab, select the Backup files that qualify for archiving check box.

Only the files and folders that meet the archiving rules are backed up.

  26. On the Storage Device tab, in the Storage Policy list, click a storage policy to associate with the subclient.
  27. Tip: To create a new storage policy, click Create Storage Policy, and then follow the instructions in the storage policy creation wizard.
  28. Click OK.
