Setting a Default Domain for Active Directory Users

You can set a default domain for AD users so that when an AD user logs on without typing the domain name as a prefix, the default domain is used to log on the user.

Even if you only have one AD domain registered with your CommCell environment, you must configure a default domain to login without a domain prefix.

Important: When local CommCell users log on, they must type local\ or the value you define in the DefaultCSDomain additional setting as the prefix to their user name. Contact your local CommCell users to let them know about this change.

Procedure

Setting a Default Domain

  • To the CommServe computer, add the DefaultADUserDomain additional setting as shown in the following table.

For instructions on adding the additional setting from the CommCell Console, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.

    Additional Setting

    Category

    Type

    Value

    DefaultADUserDomain

    CommServDB.GxGlobalParam

    STRING

If you have Active Directory (AD) domains registered with your CommCell environment, the default domain to use when AD users log on. For example, for user mycompany\jsmith, the domain is mycompany, so enter mycompany as the value.

Updating the Local User Prefix

  • To the CommServe computer, add the DefaultCSDomain additional setting as shown in the following table.

For instructions on adding the additional setting from the CommCell Console, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.

    Additional Setting

    Category

    Type

    Value

    DefaultCSDomain

    CommServDB.GxGlobalParam

    STRING

The default domain to use when local CommCell users log on.

If you do not define a value, local CommCell users must type local\ as the prefix to their user name.

Result

AD users can log on without typing the domain name as a prefix. If an AD user does include the domain prefix, that user is still logged on. For example, instead of typing mycompany\jsmith as the user name, the AD user can type jsmith.

Local CommCell users must type local\ or the value defined in DefaultCSDomain as the prefix to their user name. For example, type local\jsmith or DefaultCSDomain_value\jsmith to log on.
