Advanced Restore (General) - Online Help

Use this dialog box to access additional restore options.

Automatically Detect Regular Expressions

Select this option to use wildcard characters to specify the patterns for files and folders to include in the restore operation.

When you select this option, the system recognizes supported regular expressions (wildcards) in the source path. When you clear this option, the system reads the source path as literal.

This option is selected by default for direct restore operations. For browse and restore operations, the option cannot be enabled, because you are selecting definitive paths to restore.

Skip Errors and Continue

Select this option if you want the restore job to continue regardless of media errors.

The restore job generates a file that lists the full path names of the files that failed to be restored.

Restore device files as regular files

Select this option to restore the actual data in the device node file of the raw partition to a regular file system file.

Use Exact Index

Select this option to associate the media with the most recent index that is available in the CommCell environment.

Skip Mount Point Restore

Select this option to filter out mount points that are part of the backup data during the file system restore.

Recover Apple Resource Fork Data

Specifies whether to restore encoded Apple resource fork data to your non-Macintosh file system.

Delete files on disk before restore

Specifies whether the file or directory being restored has to be deleted on the destination client before the restore process overwrites it, when the Overwrite Files check box is selected in the Restore Options (General) tab.

For symbolic links, this option specifies whether the file or directory being restored overwrites the symbolic link in place on the destination client. During restore operations, if the destination file on the destination client has been replaced by a symbolic link with the same name, then the restore process overwrites both the source file of the symbolic link and the symbolic link rather than only the symbolic link itself. Select this option to overwrite only the symbolic link and not the source file.

Validate Only

Validation verifies that the backup data in the MediaAgent computer is intact and usable for restores. The option performs a quick check by comparing the data size received for each file and the total size of the file during the backup operation. If the two sizes do not match, then the validation process fails the restore operation.

With this option, you can identify data loss problems and errors on the MediaAgent computer before a restore operation starts.
