Creating an Office 365 Backup Set for SharePoint

To create an Office 365 backup set on the SharePoint Server, complete the following steps:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

Note: Do not create an Office 365 backup set and an On Premise backup set on the same computer.

  2. Right-click SharePoint Server, point to All Tasks, and then click Create New Backup Set.

The Create New Backup Set dialog box appears.

  3. In the New Backup Set Name box, type a name for the new Office 365 backup set.
  4. In the Choose Backup Set Type section, select Office 365.
  5. From the Storage Policy list, select a storage policy that you want to associate with the new backup set.
  6. Click OK.
  7. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.
  8. Right-click the backup set created in the above steps, and then click Properties.

The Backup Set Properties dialog box appears.

  9. On the Office 365 tab, type the following information:
    1. Type your login credentials for the SharePoint online administrator user account that can connect to the tenant, and that is also the site collection administrator.

If you have two-factor authentication enabled, generate an app password and use the app password to connect to the tenant.

    2. Type the URL for Tenant Admin Site. For example, https://<office_365_tenant_prefix>-admin.sharepoint.com.
    3. Create a new Azure storage account, or use an existing Azure storage account to perform a restore operation.
    4. Type the primary or the secondary account key of the Azure storage account.
  10. On the Office 365 Additional Users tab, you can add multiple user account credentials. These user accounts are used to enhance backup performance by using all the accounts simultaneously during a backup operation. Using multiple user accounts also helps in backup retries during job throttling.
  11. Click OK.

Important: Commvault software supports Microsoft Azure for public clouds only. Sovereign clouds, such as in Germany or China, are not supported. For more information, consult Microsoft documentation. For example, “App Service Regional Details”, https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/app-service/regional-details/.
