The following sections list the alert types available under the Custom Rules category along with important details such as:

  • User permissions needed to use the alert

Activities Disabled at CommCell Alert

Use this alert to monitor when activities, such as scheduling, backup, and auxiliary copy, are disabled at the CommCell level.

Auxiliary Copy Job Failed Continuously for N Attempts

Use this alert to monitor the success of auxiliary copy jobs for a storage policy.

The alert is sent when more than a specific number of consecutive auxiliary copy jobs for a storage policy fail.

Backup Exceeds X GB

Use this alert to monitor the size of the backup job running on a client.

The size of the backup job on a client exceeds the maximum defined size.

Filter

This alert checks all the currently running backup jobs that have exceeded the defined limit. The following filters can be applied to run the alert on specific jobs:

  • Job ID
  • User
  • Backed Up Size
  • Subclient

Backup Job Scan Phase Exceeds Threshold

Use this alert to monitor jobs that remain in the scan phase longer than the specified threshold. Install this alert rule from the Commvault Store. See Installing Alert Rules from the Commvault Store.

The scan phase for the job exceeds the maximum defined time limit.

Filter

This alert checks all the currently running jobs that have exceeded the defined time limit. The following filters can be applied to run the alert on specific jobs:

  • Job ID
  • User Name
  • Subclient Name

CA Certificate Expired

Use this alert to monitor when CommCell certificates will expire. The alert reports all CA certificates that will expire after the user-defined threshold. Install this alert rule from the Commvault Store. See Installing Alert Rules from the Commvault Store.

Threshold days for certificate expiry

The threshold for the number of days from expiration. For example, enter 125 to trigger an alert for all CA certificates that expire within the next 125 days.

Clients Not Backed Up by Days

Use this alert to monitor clients that are not backed up in a specified number of days. The alert reports the client name and the number of days since the client was backed up. Install this alert rule from the Commvault Store. See Installing Alert Rules from the Commvault Store.

Client Group License Usage Check

Use this alert to monitor client computer groups that exceed the limit on the amount of data they can back up. The alert reports the client group name. For information on setting limits on client computer groups, see Setting a Licensing Limit for Tenants.

Note: This alert rule does not generate an alert if the Enable after a Delay option is used when the Enable Scheduler check box is cleared.

Data Aging Job Has Not Run for X Days

Use this alert to monitor the periodic running of the data aging job. Install this alert from the Commvault Store. See Alerts and Notifications - Installing Alert Rules from Commvault Store.

DDB Disk Space Low

Use this alert to monitor when a deduplication database reaches free space thresholds. The alert reports the available free space, the free space warning threshold, and the minimum free space required. Install this alert rule from the Commvault Store. Job Run Time Anomaly

Use this alert to monitor the run time of backup jobs for a client computer group and send alert when the run time exceeds the system threshold runtime calculated based on the historical data of successful backup jobs collected using machine learning. The alert reports the job IDs and the reasons the jobs are taking more time to run. This alert helps the backup administrators to detect any anomaly in job execution.

Client Computer Group

You can select the client computer groups for which the system can monitor the run time. The system calculates the threshold run time for a client computer group based on the historical data of successful backup jobs collected using machine learning. For example, if the system calculated run time for a client computer group is 15 minutes, the system triggers an alert if the run time for a backup job exceeds 15 minutes.

License Usage Alert

Use this alert to monitor when the percentage of permanent licenses consumed exceeds the specified threshold. The alert reports the permanent licenses that are issued and the permanent licenses that are consumed. Install this alert rule from the Commvault Store. Use this alert to monitor database agent incremental data protection jobs that are delayed more than the specified number of minutes. Important: Before using the Transaction log backup delayed alert alert, set up a separate alert where:

  • Category is Job Management
  • Type is Data Protection
  • Alert Criterion is Delayed by 1 Hrs
