Configuring Disk Network Storage Pool

Use the following sections to configure a Disk Network Storage Pool from the CommCell Console.

To configure Disk Network Storage Pools from the command line, see Creating Disk Network Storage Pool Using Command Line.

About this Task

The configuration wizard automatically creates the following entities as soon as the storage pool is configured:

In addition, if a Client Group is associated with the storage pool, all the MediaAgents in the Client Group is automatically shared across the mount paths available in the library, with Read access.

Gather Disk Storage Pool Data

Required Information

Details

Storage Pool Name

Name of the storage pool.

For example: storagepool-disk001

Storage

Create Local

Click to create a disk library using a local path.

Create Network

Click to create a disk library using a network path.

Deduplication Database (DDB) Location

Path in which the deduplicated database (DDB) is stored.

MediaAgent and Partition Paths

Path to the MediaAgents and DDB partitions, if partitioned deduplication database was enabled.

Client Group

Note: When a new MediaAgent is added to the client group, then it is automatically shared.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand to Storage Resources > Storage Pools.
  2. Right-click the Storage Pools and click Disk.
  3. The Create New Storage Pool Wizard opens. Follow the instructions in the wizard and use the data that was already gathered.
  4. Click Finish to create a Disk Storage Pool

The new storage pool appears under the Storage Pools node.

Result

After the configuration the following entities will be available in the CommCell Console:

  • A Global Deduplication Policy (Disk Network Storage Pool) under the Storage Pools node and under the Storage Policies node.

Note: After creating a Network Storage Pool, additional storage policies can be created and associated with the Global Deduplication Policy (Disk Network Storage pool). For information see Creating a Storage Policy with Global Deduplication.

  • A storage policy associated with the Global Deduplication Policy under the Storage Policies node and with the string 'SystemCreateSP' added as a suffix to the name.

    For example: storagepool-disk001_SystemCreateSP

  • The following entities will be created and displayed under the Global Deduplication Policy (Disk Network Storage Pool) node in the CommCell Console:
    • Deduplication Engines
    • Storage Policy Copy, DDB and partitions under the Deduplication Engines node
    • Disk Library under the Storage node with Library as the name suffix

      For example: storagepool-disk001Library

  • All the existing Global Deduplication Policies will appear as Storage Pools under the Storage Pools node.
  • If a client group was selected, then all the MediaAgents in the client group are automatically shared across the mount paths available in the library, with Read access, using one of the following transport types:
    • For mount paths with a Network path, the MediaAgents are shared as a network path using the Regular transport type.
    • For mount paths with a Local path, the MediaAgents are shared using the Data Server-IP transport type.
