Configuring the Commvault Environment for VMware vRealize

To customize the Commvault environment for vRealize users, you can perform required configuration tasks from the Command Center or CommCell Console.

Procedure

Perform the following tasks from the Command Center:

  1. Configure a VMware hypervisor.

If you have already created a virtualization client from the CommCell Console, you can use that instead.

You must use the name of the hypervisor or virtualization client as the endpoint in vRealize. For example, if you use the fully qualified domain name for the hypervisor or virtualization client, you must use exactly the same name for the vRealize endpoint.

To verify the vRealize endpoint name in vRealize Orchestrator, go to Design Mode > Inventory. The value shown for vSphere vCenter plugin is the vRealize endpoint name.

  2. Create a server plan.

The equivalent operations from the CommCell Console are:

    • Creating a storage policy for each service level that you plan to support.
    • Creating a schedule policy for each service level that you plan to support, and associate the schedule policy with a storage policy that should use the schedule.

Automatically Created Objects

Some CommCell Console or Command Center objects are created automatically when you use the vRealize Plugin:

  • The vRealize Plugin automatically creates a backup set for the associated tenant in the CommCell Console when you add a VM to a VM group using a blueprint, back up a VM group, or back up a VM.
  • When a user for a particular tenant requests a backup for a virtual machine, the vRealize Plugin automatically creates a Command Center VM group (CommCell Console subclient). The VM group name is in the form tenant_name.vm_group_name.
