Known Issues in Service Pack 13
Whether you are installing this software for the first time, or upgrading from a previous version, please note these important considerations.
Note: If you are upgrading from a previous release or service pack, also review the following pages:
- New Features
- Changes
- End-of-Life, Deprecated and Extended Support - Products
- End-of-Life, Deprecated and Extended Support - Features
The following issues are in addition to the Known Issues in Version 11.
End of Support for Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2
Because newer versions of Windows include important performance, stability, and reliability improvements, new installations on Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 are not supported for the following Commvault platforms:
- CommServe
- MediaAgent
- Web Console
- Web Server
- Workflow
- Metrics Report
- Search Engine and Analytics
Existing deployments continue to be supported for Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2. However, you should plan to upgrade the operating system in the near future, to maintain supportability and to take advantage of the improvements offered with newer versions of Windows.

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 is Automatically Installed
Starting in Service Pack 11, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 (vcredist2017.exe) is automatically installed. If a computer does not have the latest Windows updates, the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 will fail.
The following Windows updates must be installed:
- KB2919355
- KB2939087
- KB2975061
- KB2999226
Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows Server 2016 come with the Universal C Runtime already installed, so only the basic VC2017/2013/2010 redistributable installation may be required.
The Client Readiness report identifies clients that need to be patched before moving to Service Pack 11. The report requires a hotfix for previous service packs.
To gather the required information for the SP11 Client Readiness Report, the following updates must be installed on the client:
- SP10 and later: Hotfix not required
- SP9: Hotfix 3506 required
- SP8: Hotfix 2470 required
- SP7 and earlier: Readiness check will not be performed
To view the report, download it from Commvault Store: SP11 Client Readiness report.

Starting in Service Pack 11, for the software to install successfully, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 x86 (32-bit) must be installed manually for Windows Server 2003 64-bit clients and Windows XP 64-bit clients.
Volume Size Updates for Cloud Storage Mount Paths
Volume Size Updates for Cloud Storage Mount Paths
The Process volume size updates for cloud mount paths option is enabled by default on new CommServe server installations.
Note: Note that this operation involves additional queries to the cloud storage library which may, in turn, result in additional costs incurred on cloud storage.
This change will be applied on the following versions:
- New CommServe server installations in SP13 (or later)
- Upgraded CommServe server from Version 10 to Version 11 SP13 (or later)
This change will not affect existing cloud storage mount paths in V11 CommServe servers that are upgraded from a previous Service Pack to SP13.
For more information on this options, see Media Management Configuration: Service Configuration.
Job Progress for a Move Mount Path Operation Appears Incorrect Sometimes
When the MediaAgent is on SP12 or lower version and the CommServe is on SP13 version, the job progress status for a move mount path operation sometimes appears as 100% or lower than the original value when the operation is in progress.
For more information about the move mount path operation, see Moving a Mount Path.
Deduplication Database (DDB) Based Data Verification
For deduplication database (DDB) based data verification, if one of the partition MediaAgent of a DDB is upgraded to SP8 or later, then all other partition MediaAgents of the same DDB must be upgraded to SP8 or later.
Enabling Legal Holds Option on a Global Deduplication Policy Causes Backups to Fail
For global deduplication policies (GDSP), selecting the Enable this Storage Policy for Legal Holds option causes an Information Management Job (Legal Hold) to fail, but you can run non-Legal Hold jobs that use the same GDSP. Do not select the Enable this Storage Policy for Legal Holds option for global deduplication policies. This option will be removed in a future service pack.
Modifications to Chunk Size for Cloud Library Data Path
For storage policies associated with cloud library data paths, if the chunk size is set to less than 1 GB, then the chunk size will be automatically set to 4 GB and the Use Application Setting option available on the Data Path Properties window is enabled.
Office 365 with Exchange Support Ended for the Exchange Mailbox (Classic) Agent
On October 31, 2017, Microsoft ended support for RPC over HTTP for Office 365. For more information, see the Microsoft support article: "RPC over HTTP reaches end of support in Office 365 on October 31, 2017", https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3201590/rpc-over-http-reaches-end-of-support-in-office-365-on-october-31-2017.

Upgrading to SP8 or later for SAP Archive Link clients is now supported. To upgrade, contact Commvault Support for upgrade assistance.
Archiving SQL Server Database Tables
Note the following caveats when you archive SQL Server database tables:
- Database names containing characters {, }, and ; are not supported for archiving.
- Table names containing characters [, ], and . are not supported for archiving.
- Read-only databases are not supported for archiving.
- You can archive only one target table for each subclient.
- Only SQL server authentication credentials with sysadmin role is supported. Windows authentication for SQL user credentials is not supported.
SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017 Log Restores to a Database in a Stand-By State May Fail
SQL Server log restores to a database in the stand-by state are affected by a Microsoft issue. Refer to Microsoft Support article FIX: Intermittent 9004 error when a backup is restored via Standby Mode in SQL Server 2014, 2016, and 2017. As a workaround, perform restores of database and transaction logs using the NORECOVERY option.
Upgrade Client Computers After You Upgrade the CommServe Computer
Applies To: Google Mail and Google Drive, GPFS, Greenplum, Hadoop, Salesforce
After you upgrade your CommServe computer to Commvault Service Pack 8, you must also upgrade your client computers to Commvault Service Pack 8. Otherwise, backup and restore operations will fail.
Backup Support for File Path with More Than 1024 Characters
Applies to: Windows File System Agent
Starting with Service Pack 6, you can back up files that have file paths that contain more than 1024 characters. Previously, files that had file paths that contained more than 1024 characters were skipped during backups.
When you upgrade from Service Pack 5 to the current Service Pack, in order to back up the data that was skipped in the previous service pack, select the Synchronize Source Files and Backup Index check box (Advanced Subclient Properties dialog box, Advanced Options tab) if it is available, or run a full backup.
Block-Level Backup Operations Complete With Errors After Upgrading to Service Pack 11
Applies to: File System Agents
After upgrading to Commvault Service Pack 11, block-level backup operations that use native snapshot engines, might complete with errors.
To resolve this issue, download and install the latest Commvault hotfix pack on the CommServe computer.
File-Level Live Browse Operations of Solaris ZFS Mount Point Block-Level Backups
On Solaris MediaAgents, file-level live browse operations of ZFS mount point block-level backups might leave behind uncleaned zpools (that were created by the live browse operation) in certain cases. The uncleaned zpools cannot be removed by using the export or delete commands. This issue will be addressed in a future service pack.
As a workaround, Commvault recommends using non-production clients for file-level browse operations of ZFS mount point block-level backups.
Advanced Backup and Restore Options Are Not Supported for Cassandra
Advanced backup and restore options are not supported.
This will be addressed in a future service pack.
The Client Computer Name Is Not Displayed for NAS and Network Share Client Computers
If a client computer does not consume a Server File System license, then the client computer name is not displayed in the Backup Nodes tab or in the Proxy Client list of the Subclient Properties dialog box.
GlusterFind API for GlusterFS
The following GlusterFind known issues might result in inconsistent backup operations in certain cases.
- "Glusterfind : wrong results while retrieving incremental list of files modified after last run"
For more information, see bugzilla.redhat.com, bug #1535526.
- "Glusterfind : Move Operations performed in the Filesystem are not reported correctly"
For more information, see bugzilla.redhat.com, bug #1471963.
These issues will be automatically resolved when you synchronize the data on the GlusterFS volume and the backup index periodically, see Synchronizing Data on the Disk and the Index.
GlusterFS Backup Jobs
GlusterFS backup jobs always start on the data access nodes that are selected at the instance level.
This issue will be addressed in a future service pack.
Lustre (File System) Backup Jobs
Lustre (File System) backup jobs always start on the data access nodes that are selected at the instance level.
This issue will be addressed in a future service pack.
Office 365 with Exchange Support Ended for OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic)
On October 31, 2017, Microsoft ended support for RPC over HTTP for Office 365. For information about installing Outlook Add-In with ContentStore Email Viewer and a link to the latest version of the Outlook Add-In with ContentStore Email Viewer, see Installing Outlook Add-In with ContentStore - Administrator.
Tip: You can also perform a remote install of Outlook Add-In with ContentStore Email Viewer using the ContentStore Commands feature in the Search Admin page. For more information, see Managing Configuration Commands for ContentStore Email Viewer Clients from the Search Admin Page.
Inconsistent Volume Backup Occurs Because of Manually Deleted IntelliSnap and Backup Copy Jobs
Applies To: UNIX File System, Windows File System, Oracle, MySQL, and PostGreSQL with block-level backup enabled
If block-level backups are enabled and unmaterialized IntelliSnap or backup copy jobs are manually deleted, the subsequent backup copy job does not include the changes that happened during the deleted IntelliSnap or backup copy job. This could result in inconsistent volume backups. You might not be able to recover the file system or database from the backed-up data.
To resolve this issue, if an unmaterialized IntelliSnap or backup copy is manually deleted, run an immediate full, block-level backup job.
Edge Drive Support on Mac Laptops with Apple File System ( APFS)
Edge Drive offline sync is currently not supported on new MAC laptops that use the High Sierra 10.13.4 operating system (OS) with Apple File System ( APFS ). We will add this support in a future service pack.
This issue does not impact existing MAC laptops that did not switch to the APFS file system after an OS upgrade.
Data To Process Value Mismatch for Edge Backups During Auxiliary Copy Jobs
If Edge backup data is being processed during the auxiliary copy operation, the values in the Total Data Processed field in the Auxiliary Copy Job Details dialog box might exceed the Total Data to Process field and the auxiliary copy job may keep running at 100%. This issue will be addressed in a future service pack.
After Web Server Upgrade You Must Upgrade Outlook Add-In with ContentStore
After upgrading the Web Server to Service Pack 9, you must upgrade the Outlook Add-In with ContentStore or Outlook Add-In with ContentStore and Edge Attachment Store packages on clients in your environment to the latest versions. Otherwise, users will not be able to see previews from the ContentStore node in Microsoft Outlook.
For links to the latest download packages and installation information, see Outlook Add-In Packages.
Running Data Analytics for Virtual Server Agents on Storage Policies Is No Longer Supported
After SP6, you can no longer run Data Analytics for Virtual Server Agents at the storage policy level. You must run the analytics operation at the client group level in the CommCell Console. For more information, see Running Data Analytics on a Client Computer Group.
