Configurations - Exchange Offline Mining Tool (Administrator)

Live Browse replaces the Exchange Offline Mining Tool. For more information, see Recovering Messages from an Offline Exchange Database.

Before You Begin

  • You must log on using an account that is a member of the security group called exchangedbmineadmins.

  • Before you restore the backed up data, make sure that the Storage Group or the Database name includes ASCII characters only and does not contain the plus (+) character.

Create the Offline Database

Restore the data that you want to mine by performing an out-of-place restore of the database without recovery.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

  2. Right-click Exchange Database, and then click All Tasks >Browse and Restore.

    The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. In the left pane, select the appropriate database.

    The data and logs are selected in the right pane.

  5. Click Recover All Selected.

    The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  6. In the Destination Client list, select the name of the client computer.

    This client should not be the same client where the database was located originally.

  7. In the Restore Options area, select Out of place restore to file location, and then select the Without Recovery check box.

  8. In the list at the bottom of the dialog box, select the Source DB.

  9. In the Destination DB/Out of Place Location column, click ...

    The Client Browse dialog box appears.

  10. Select the path to the destination location, and then click OK.

  11. Click the Job Initiation tab, and then select Immediate.

  12. Click OK.

    The database is restored to the location that you specified.

Register the Offline Database

When you register the offline database, you associate the database with the Exchange Offline Mining Tool.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the client computer where the Exchange Offline Mining Tool installed.

  2. Navigate to the Start > All Programs > software_location folder.

  3. Click Exchange Database Mining Tool.

  4. Click Exchange > New.

    The Import Exchange Database dialog box appears.

  5. In the Exchange EDB Path box, enter the file path to the offline database's .edb files.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Repeat this procedure to register additional databases.

Export Database Configuration for End Users

After you register the database, you can export the settings as a configuration file for your end users.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the client computer where the Exchange Offline Mining Tool installed.

  2. Navigate to the Start > All Programs > software_location folder.

  3. Click Exchange Database Mining Tool.

  4. Click Exchange > Save.

    The Choose Location dialog box appears.

  5. Enter the file path and the file name of the Configuration File to be exported.

  6. Click OK.
