Configuring an Internet Gateway for the CommServe Computer

You can use a client computer or the Metrics Reporting Server as an Internet gateway to connect to the Internet for downloading software and updates and uploading Cloud Metrics Reporting data and Private Metrics Reporting data.

When you specify the Metrics Server as the Internet gateway, the following services will use the Internet gateway:

  • Cloud Metrics Reporting

When you specify a client computer as the Internet gateway, the following services can use the Internet gateway:

  • Cloud Metrics Reporting

  • Private Metrics Reporting

  • Download Software

Before You Begin

The Internet gateway computer must be a Windows client with the following properties:

  • V11 Service Pack 7 or a later version installed

  • Windows File System Agent installed

  • Sufficient disk space

  • Internet connectivity

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Home tab, click Control Panel.

  2. In the Control Panel dialog box, click Internet Options.

  3. On the Internet Gateway tab, select which computer to use as an Internet gateway:

    • To use the Private Metrics Reporting Server as an Internet gateway for Cloud Metrics Reporting, select Use Metrics Server.

    • To use a client computer as an Internet gateway, select Use Client, and then do the following:

      1. Select the services you want the client computer to use:

      2. To use a client computer as an Internet gateway for Cloud Metrics Reporting, select the Enable for Cloud Metrics Server check box.

      3. To use a client computer as an Internet gateway for Private Metrics Reporting, select the Enable for Private Metrics Server check box.

      4. To use a client computer as an Internet gateway for sending log files, select the Enable for Send Log File check box.

      5. From the Client list, select the name of the computer you want to use as a gateway.

  4. Click OK.

    The next time you download the software, the download operation will use the gateway client that you configured.
