Creating an HAC Cluster for Index Server Cloud

The HAC cluster is a group of High Availability Computing nodes. High Availability Computing nodes are clients where the High Availability Computing package is installed. The High Availability Computing nodes coordinate the operations of individual Index Server nodes in an Index Server cloud.

Caution

You cannot add or remove HAC clients from the HAC cluster after the cluster is created. Confirm which clients to use in the cluster before you create the cluster.

Before You Begin

  • Installed the High Availability Computing package on multiple clients in your CommCell environment. For instructions, see Installing the High Availability Computing Package for Index Server Cloud.

  • Verify that all of the nodes can directly communicate with each other and the Index Server (default port 20000). By default, ports 8090, 8091 and 8097 are used by the High Availability Computing package service. If these ports are not available, you can edit the port numbers used by the High Availability Computing package when you create the HAC cluster.

If you need to configure the port numbers after you create the HAC cluster, see Changing the Settings for a Node in an HAC Cluster.

Procedure

  1. In the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computer Groups, right-click HAC Cluster, and then click New HAC Cluster.

If the HAC Cluster client computer group does not exist, right-click the Client Computers node, and then click New Client. In the Add New Client dialog box, under File System, click HAC.

The Create HAC Client dialog box appears.

  2. In Cluster Name, enter a name for the HAC cluster.

  3. Next to Nodes, click the Add button.

  4. In the Select Client Nodes dialog box, add clients with the High Availability Computing package installed to the HAC cluster as follows:

    1. In the Add HAC Clients list, select three or five clients.

      Note

The HAC cluster must contain an odd number of nodes. For small to medium environments, use three nodes. For large environments, use five nodes.

    2. Click the right-arrow > button.

The selected client names appear in the HAC Clients in this cluster list.

    3. Click OK.

  5. Optional: If you need to change the port numbers used by the High Availability Computing package service, proceed as follows:

    1. Under Nodes, select the client you want to configure, and then click the Edit button.

    2. In the Properties dialog box, change the values of the ports to suit your needs.

    3. Click OK.

  6. In the Create HAC Client dialog box, click OK.

The new HAC cluster appears in the HAC Cluster list.
