Creating a Selective Copy

You can create selective copy to copy specific full backup jobs from a source copy.

Before You Begin

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies.

  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy, point to All Tasks, and then click Create New Copy.

  3. In the Copy Properties dialog box, specify the appropriate settings.

    1. In the Copy Name box, a default name is automatically populated and is in the following format. However, if you want, then you can type a different name in the field.

      Copy_x

Where X is the number of the storage policy copy. For example, if it is the first copy then the default name of the storage policy copy is Copy_2.

    2. Select the Selective Copy check box.

The Selective Copy tab becomes available.

    3. From the Library list, select the name of Library.

    4. From the MediaAgent list, select the name of a MediaAgent.

    5. From the Drive Pool list, select the name of a Drive Pool.

    6. From the Scratch Pool list, select the name of the Scratch Pool.

Drive Pool and Scratch Pool are applicable only for tape libraries.

    7. Click the Copy Policy tab, clear the All Backup check box, and then in the Backups On and After box, enter the start date.

The start date is the date from which the backup jobs will be copied from the source to the selective copy. The backup jobs that ran prior to the start date are not available to the selective copy.

Note: The selection period for a selective copy is determined only by the copy creation time. The Backups on or After option does not affect the selection period for a given selective copy because Backups on or After option is only used to decide which backup job after specified date is qualified to be picked.

  4. Click OK.

  5. On V11 installs, the selective copy is automatically associated with the System Created Autocopy schedule policy.

The system created autocopy schedule repeatedly runs the auxiliary copy job everyday 30 minute time internal.

    Notes:

    • For setups that are upgraded from the previous version, in the Auxiliary Copy Schedule dialog box, click OK to accept the default schedules.

    • The selective copy is automatically associated to a pre-existing schedule of the storage policy, if the schedule was created with the All Copies option enabled.

When an Auxiliary Copy job is run, by default all first full backup job in every week is copied. To modify the frequency for a selective copy, see Configuring the Frequency of Backups for the Selective Copy for more information.
