Installing an Application Seed Package on Windows Computers

You can install an application seed package by running the setup application that is included in the package contents.

This procedure is useful if the package was configured to prompt for user input during the installation.

Before You Begin

  • Obtain the application seed package from the location specified by the user who created it.

If the package is in the Download Center, see Downloading a Software Package in Download Center - Web Console.

  • Based on the agents that are included in the application seed package, verify that the computer on which you want to install the package satisfies the minimum requirements specified in System Requirements.

  • If the application seed package requires user input during the installation, but you did not create the package, the user who created the package will provide you with the necessary information to prepare for the installation.

  • If you have a 64-bit Windows computer and you need to protect 32-bit applications, you must configure a registry key to enable 32-bit agent installations. For more information, see the Alternate Method in Enabling 32-Bit Installations on 64-Bit Windows Computers.

Interactive Mode Procedure

You can use the interactive mode procedure, which displays the Roles Selection screen at the end of the application seed package installation process. This allows you to choose packages and configure user roles.

  1. Log on to the computer as an Administrator or as a member of the Administrator group on that computer.

  2. Go to the location where you stored the application seed package, and then find and double-click the Setup.exe file.

For example, if you have a Windows x64 computer and the name of the package is CustomPackageName, then the Setup.exe file will be located in the CustomPackageName\CustomPackageName_WinX64 folder.

  3. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

    Note

If the application seed package was configured to install the software in decoupled mode, you do not have to provide the CommServe computer details during the installation. In a decoupled installation, the client does not establish connections with the CommServe computer. At the end of the installation, you will receive a message indicating that the installation is not complete until you register the client with the CommServe.

  4. The Roles Selection screen will appear, allowing you to select packages to install. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Silent Mode Procedure

  1. Run the following command: CustomPackageName.exe /silent /install /silent /authcode code

Where code is the company authorization code. This is required if you did not enter the installation user's credentials when the package was created. To obtain the authorization code, go to Command Center, and then go to Companies > Company name > General or CommCell > General.

    Tip

If the package fails to extract the software and displays an error stating that the program "Could not read the source SFX", the software extraction may have failed if the package was in a directory that had non-English characters. If this occurs, move the package to the root of c: drive, and then retry the installation. For a list of installer error codes, see Installer Error Codes.

  2. If you want to select packages to install, launch the Roles Manager application from Windows and follow the on-screen prompts.

  3. If you want to add packages in unattended mode (that is, silently) using Roles Manager, see Launching Roles Manager in Unattended Mode on Windows computers.
