Installing the Search Engine

Install the Search Engine by using the CommCell Console or the installation package that was created from the Download Manager application. You can create a Search Engine cloud or join an existing Search Engine cloud.

Before You Begin

Review Commvault requirements and gather the information that you must provide during the installation. For more information, see Preinstallation Checklist for the Search Engine.

Choose the Installation Method

Use one of the following methods to install the Search Engine package, which is listed under the Server category:

  • Remote installations, where you use the CommCell Console to install the software remotely on one or more computers:

    1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Tools tab, click Add/Remove Software > Install Software.

      The Install Wizard opens.

    2. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard and provide the following information:

      • The fully qualified domain name of the computer where you want to install the Search Engine.

      • Credentials for a user with administrative access to the computer where you want to install the Search Engine.

      • Select the Search Engine package.

      • Select the Create New Cloud check box, and then in the Add a new Search Engine box, type a unique name for the Search Engine.

You can also join an existing Search Engine. Clear the Create New Cloud check box, and then from the Join existing Search Engine list, select the Search Engine to join.

      • If other Search Engines are installed on the client, select an available Base Port number.

      • In the Index Location Path box, enter a path on the computer where the index information will be stored.

For information about installations using the CommCell Console, see Installing Commvault Remotely Using the CommCell Console.

  • Local installations, where you use an installation package to install the software locally on a computer. The installation package is created in the Download Manager application. Select the Search Engine package when you create the installation package.

For detailed instructions about installing a package, see Installing Commvault Locally on Windows Computers Using the Installation Package.

What to Do Next

  • Review the postinstallation tasks that you might have to perform to complete the installation:

    • Add Commvault to the Windows Firewall Exclusion List

If you did not add the Commvault programs and services to the Windows Firewall exclusion list during the installation, you can add them later by using a batch file. For more information, see Configuring Windows Firewall to Allow CommCell Communication.

    • Complete Firewall Configurations

If you configured firewall settings during the installation, you must complete additional firewall configurations from the CommCell Console. For more information, see Firewall: Overview.

  • Secure access to the Search Engine node and the content indexing data. See Securing Access to the Search Engine and Content Indexing Data.

  • Configure the Search Engine and enable content indexing. For more information, see Configuration - Search Engine.
