Running the RDS Migration Workflow

Run the RDS Migration workflow when you want to migrate an Oracle database, schema or tablespaces to an Amazon RDS database.

When you run the workflow, the Commvault software considers the name of the undo tablespace to be UNDOTBS1.

How Does It Work?

This predefined workflow automates the following operations:

  1. Transfers the data to the Amazon RDS database.

  2. Transfers the Oracle application to the Amazon RDS database.

Before You Begin

Perform a full backup.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Workflows.

  2. Right-click RDS Migration, and then click All Tasks > Execute.

The RDS Migration Options dialog box appears.

  3. On the Inputs tab, specify the migration options.

    1. From the Run workflow on list, select the client that the workflow runs on.

    2. From the Content Type list, select what data the software migrates.

    3. From the Source Client Name list, select the clients that hosts the Oracle database.

    4. In the Source Database box, type the name of the Oracle database that you want to migrate.

    5. In the Oracle Username box, type the user name that you use to connect to the Oracle database.

    6. In the Oracle user password box, type the password for the Oracle user.

    7. In the Schema/tablespace List box, type one of the following values:

      • If you selected the FULL as the Content Type, type the database name.

      • If you selected SCHEMA as the Content Type, type the schema name. To migrate additional schema, click the + button, and then type the schema name.

      • If you selected TABLESPACE as the Content Type, type the tablespace name. To migrate additional tablespaces, click the + button, and then type the tablespace name.

    8. In the RDS DB NAME box, type the name of the Amazon RDS database.

    9. In the RDS DB USERNAME box, type the user name that you use to connect to the Amazon RDS database.

    10. In the RDS DB USERNAME box, type the password for the Amazon RDS database user.

    11. In the Dump Directory box, type the full path to the directory that the software uses to manage tablespaces.

    12. In the email box, type the email addresses for users who receive the job status email. Separate email addresses with a semi-colon (;).

  4. Click OK.

You can track the progress of the workflow job from the Job Controller. For instructions on using the Job Controller, see Getting Started with the Job Controller.

What to Do Next

If the source client runs the AIX operating system, you must run the Oracle commands to convert the tablespaces. For more information, see Basic Concepts of Cross-Platform Data Transportation.
