Activating Private Metrics Reporting on the CommCell Console

You can turn on data collection for Private Metrics Reporting in the CommCell Console Control Panel.

Important: The Metrics Reporting Server must be at the same software version or later than a CommServe computer that uploads data to the Metrics Reporting Server. For example, you cannot enable a V11 CommServe computer to upload report data to a V10 Metrics Reporting Server.

Before You Begin

On the Private Metrics Reporting Server, open port 80 and port 443.

Procedure

  1. On the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Home tab, click the Control Panel button.

  2. Click Private Metrics Reporting.

The Private Metrics Reporting dialog box appears.

  3. On the General tab, select CommCell Diagnostics and Usage.

  4. To collect information for reports, select any of the report types:

    • To collect information about the wellness of the CommCell, select Health Check.

    • To collect information that will help you determine how your CommCell environment is performing after you upgrade to the latest version, select Post Upgrade Check.

    • To collect information about job success, client size, and errors, select Activity.

    • To collect information about CommCell settings, select Audit.

    • To collect information about protected data sizes used to calculate billing, and to specify time periods for viewing that information, select Chargeback, and then select Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.

  5. If the Download URL box is blank, type the download URL:

    • For environments with the Private Metrics Reporting Server and the Web Console on the same computer, use the name of the Private Metrics Reporting Server.

You can copy the download URL from the CommCell Console on the computer that hosts the Private Metrics Reporting Server. The download URL is located in the CommCell Console in Control Panel > Private Metrics Reporting > Download URL.

      For example: http://metricsserver1.domain.com/downloads/sqlscripts/

Where metricsserver1 is the name of your organization's Private Metrics Reporting Server. You must include the forward slash (/) at the end of the URL, otherwise the download does not work.

    • For environments with the Private Metrics Reporting Server and the Web Console on separate computers, use the name of the Web Console computer.

      For example: http://webconsole1.domain.com/downloads/sqlscripts/

Where webconsole1 is the name of your organization's Web Console computer. You must include the forward slash (/) at the end of the URL, otherwise the download does not work.

  6. If the Upload URL box is blank, type the upload URL:

    • For environments with the Private Metrics Reporting Server and the Web Console on the same computer, use the name of the Private Metrics Reporting Server.

Copy the upload URL from the CommCell Console on the computer that hosts the Private Metrics Reporting Server. The upload URL is located in the CommCell Console in Control Panel > Private Metrics Reporting > Upload URL.

      For example: http://metricsserver1.domain.com/webconsole/

Where metricsserver1 is the name of your organization's Private Metrics Reporting Server. You must include the forward slash (/) at the end of the URL, otherwise the upload does not work.

    • For environments with the Private Metrics Reporting Server and the Web Console on separate computers, use the name of the Web Console computer.

      For example: http://webconsole1.domain.com/webconsole/

Where webconsole1 is the name of your organization's Web Console. You must include the forward slash (/) at the end of the URL, otherwise the upload does not work.

  7. Click the Configuration tab, and then configure client group and data collection settings:

    • To collect information for all client groups, click All Client Groups.

    • To specify a particular client group from which to collect information, from the Available Client Groups list, select the name of a client group, and then add it to Included Client Groups.

    • To specify when report data is collected, click Data Collection Time, and then enter a time.

Data collection will begin within an hour after the specified time.

    • To specify when data collection results are uploaded, in the Upload Frequency box, enter the number of days between uploads.

The minimum frequency is one day.

To view live, or more frequent data, use the reports you can download from Commvault Store. For more information, see Download Reports from Commvault Store.

  8. Click OK.

The reports display no data immediately after you activate data collection. You must wait up to one hour for data to be collected from the CommServe computer and then uploaded to your Private Metrics Reporting Server.

Result

The first time you activate Metrics Reporting, data is collected within the next hour, and then uploaded to the Private Metrics Reporting Server or the Web Console, depending on your configuration. After Metrics Reporting is activated, data collection runs at the same time every 24 hours. Then the upload is compiled and sent to the Private Metrics Reporting Server or the Web Console, depending on the schedule that is configured in the upload frequency setting. In addition to the daily upload, the following queries upload every hour. Query 72: Daily storage usage and chargeback. Query 137: Data protection job details. Query 208: Admin job details.
