Active Directory Restores

You can restore the Active Directory database that is protected by an application-aware backup. After restoring the database, you can use offline mining to recover specific objects.

Restoring the Active Directory Database

To restore the Active Directory database, follow the steps in Restoring Data Using the Windows File System Agent. Perform an out-of-place restore operation and include the following options:

  • From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers and expand the client for the Active Directory domain controller.

  • Under the File System instance, right-click VSA_APP_AWARE_AD_BackupSet and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

  • On the Client tab, select the NTDS component as the item to recover.

After restoring the Active Directory database, you can browse the database from the Active Directory instance under the client for the Active Directory domain controller.
