Browse and Restore Options (SQL Server)

Use this dialog box to select the type of restore operation you want to execute.

The first four options use preconfigured settings that simplify the steps needed to restore the selected data:

  • Restore in place

    Restores one or more databases to their original locations and instances.

  • Restore out of place

    Restores one or more databases to a new location by using different names, file paths, or instances.

  • Restore to disk

    Restore backed up data to a disk on either the same SQL server or to a different SQL server.

  • Instance recovery

    Restores an entire SQL instance to its original location on the same computer.

Advanced restore

Restore one or more databases using advanced options that provide you with more flexibility in choosing the data to be restored and in choosing how the data is restored.

View Content

Opens a dialog box that displays the content that is available for restore.

List Media

Opens the Media dialog box and displays the location of media where you can restore.
