Cluster Aware Backup

Commvault software supports the NetApp Cluster Aware Backup (CAB) NDMP extension. The CAB feature achieves performance optimization of NDMP backups and restores by using data connections and tape drives on the same physical nodes as the protected data. CAB requires no configuration and is used without requiring user interaction.

Data is backed up or restored without being sent between nodes in the cluster. During backup and restore operations using Commvault libraries (for example, magnetic libraries on a MediaAgent) the CAB extension is used to set up data connections directly to the physical nodes which contain the data. During backup and restore operations using tape drives on the file server, the CAB extension is used to set up data connections to the tape drive directly from the physical node.
