Configure a Storage Virtual Machine on the NetApp Storage Array

On a NAS client computer for NetApp cluster, you can use the detect option to automatically detect storage virtual machines (SVM), then you can choose an SVM, and with the add option, add the SVM in the CommServe database, as an array management entry and a de-configured NAS client.

When you detect and add an SVM from the NAS client computer level, an array management entry and a de-configured NAS client are automatically created for the SVM. The snapshot configuration property tunneling is set by default on the array management entry that corresponds to the SVM. The tunneling option enables snap operations to be triggered on the SVM via the cluster/physical storage array.

This configuration procedure applies to NetApp cluster mode storage arrays and SVMs. For the configuration of NetApp 7-Mode storage arrays and vFilers, you can use the same configuration procedure.

The type of file server, whether physical or virtual, is automatically detected when you add the NetApp array entry.

Note

If the Disaster Recovery (DR) feature is configured on the source SVM, then protection state for volume clones created during the mount operation is unprotected. This means that the volume clones are not picked for replication during the next SVM DR update. This is done because the volume clones that are created during the mount operation are temporary and will be deleted on the unmount operation.

To configure an SVM on the NetApp storage array, consider the following:
