Configuring the Dell EMC PowerMax/VMAX3/VMAX/Symmetrix Storage Array on the Array Software

To configure the Dell EMC PowerMax/VMAX3/VMAX/Symmetrix storage array, map gatekeepers and verify that the Symmetrix database is loaded.

Before You Begin

Use at least 6 gatekeeper devices.

Procedure

  1. If you are using the Dell EMC TimeFinder SnapVX engine, then start the ecom service.

    1. If you are using the Dell EMC TimeFinder SnapVX engine with cascade storage group in the array, then the parent storage group of a cascade storage group must be associated to a masking view.
  2. To allow the Symmetrix API to communicate with the array, map gatekeepers on all MediaAgents. To map gatekeepers, use the Unisphere software.

  3. On the Windows command prompt or the UNIX shell, do the following:

    1. If you have the SYMCLI software installed, on your local Symmetrix environment, to verify that the Symmetrix database is successfully loaded, type the following command:

      symcfg discover

      symcfg list

    3. To list VMAX / Symmetrix devices, with the array serial and gatekeeper devices (GK), type the following command:
