Configuring a Sybase IntelliSnap Subclient

Configure the Sybase IntelliSnap subclient.

Note: If the databases that you want to include in the IntelliSnap backup share devices, you must include all databases that share the device in the subclient content.

For example, if the "DataDisk1" device contains "database1" and "databse2", you must include both databases in the subclient (Subclient Properties dialog box, Content tab).

Before You Begin

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Agent > instance

  2. Right-click the subclient and then click Properties.

The Subclient Properties dialog box appears.

  3. Configure the IntelliSnap options.

    1. On the IntelliSnap Operations tab, select the IntelliSnap check box.

A message appears that tells you that the next backup will be a full backup.

    2. Click OK.

    3. From the Available Snap Engines list, select the engine that matches your snapshot type. For a list of available engines for your array, see Snapshot Engine.

    4. From the Use Proxy list, select the appropriate MediaAgent.

This is the MediaAgent that is used to perform the IntelliSnap and backup copy operations.

Note: When you perform an IntelliSnap backup using a proxy, make sure that the operating system on the proxy server is either same version or later than the operating system on the client computer and that it runs the Version 11 Commvault software.

    5. Optional: If you want to perform the backup copy operations on a different MediaAgent, select the Use Separate Proxy for Backup Copy check box, and then select the appropriate MediaAgent from the Proxy list.

    6. To use a dump based backup copy for the backup copy operations, select the Use Dumpbased Backup Copy check box. For information on the dump based backup copy options, see Sybase IntelliSnap Backup Copy Operation Overview.

This method moves the data to the tape by using the DUMP DATABASE operation. The database backup and flow operation is the same as the traditional Sybase backup.

Select the Sybase server to use for the IntelliSnap backup operations.

The Commvault software creates a temporary Sybase server to perform the backup copy operations.

When you select this option, you must enter the following configuration information:

      • The full path to the Sybase application software in the Sybase Home box.

      • The full path to the Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) server library path in the Sybase ASE box. By default, this is located under the Sybase ASE server home directory.

      • The full path to the Sybase Open Client Server (OCS) in the Sybase OCS box. By default, this is located under the Sybase ASE server home directory.

      • The database administrator user name in the User Name box.
