Copy Properties - Data Path Configuration

Use this dialog box to configure alternate data paths and specify the conditions for using an alternate data path for the copy.

Automatically add new datapath

Indicates that the system automatically adds the alternate data paths for a shared library. This option is enabled by default for the primary copy. However, you can enable it for the associated secondary copy also.

Tip: Verify and ensure that Automatically add datapaths for new drivepools configured option is enabled in the Library Properties (Advanced) tab for this option to work.

Use Alternate Data Paths

Select this option if you want to use an alternate data path when resources are offline and/or resources are busy.

When this option is selected and you click the Add button to select the data paths, the Copy Data Path Candidates dialog box displays the data paths associated with all MediaAgents that share the library with the default data path or whose indexes are also shared in the MediaAgent Properties (Catalog) tab.

Note

The Immediately and After n hour(s) n minutes options are applicable only for primary copy. For synchronous copies, by default, the alternate data path are used immediately when resources are offline or busy.

  • When Resources are Offline

    When enabled, this option indicates that an alternate data path must be used when a resources (MediaAgent, library, master drive pool and so on) are offline.

    • Immediately

      Click this option to indicate that an alternate data path must be used immediately, when resources are offline.

    • After n hour(s) n minute(s)

      Click this option to indicate that an alternate data path can be used after waiting for the specified number of hours and minutes, when resources are offline.

  • When Resources are Busy

    When enabled, this option indicates that an alternate data path must be used when the all the drives in the library attached to the preferred MediaAgent are busy.

    • Immediately

      Click this option to indicate that an alternate data path must be used immediately, when resources are busy.

    • After n hour(s) n minute(s)

      Click this option to indicate that an alternate data path can be used after waiting for the specified number of hours and minutes, when resources are busy.

Round-Robin between Data Paths

Select this option to automatically load balance between all the available data paths.

When this option is selected and you click the Add button to select the data paths, the Copy Data Path Candidates dialog box displays the data paths that share a common index in the MediaAgent Properties (Catalog) tab.

Use preferred data path

Select this option to perform data protection operations using only the LAN free data paths. (Note that the client and the MediaAgent must be on the same computer, in order to perform a LAN-free operation.)

When this option is selected and you click the Add button to select the data paths, the Copy Data Path Candidates dialog box displays all the available data paths associated with all MediaAgents and all Libraries configured in the CommCell. When the data paths are selected, the system automatically determines whether a data path is LAN free before performing the data protection operations.

Use hardware snapshot

Select this option to use a hardware snapshot when replicating data to a volume on a supported array.

This option is available only on a snap copy.
