FAQ - What is a network interface name?
A network interface name is an identifier by which a computer is known to a network.
A computer can have multiple network interfaces when it has multiple network interface cards (NIC) installed in it. Since each NIC has a unique interface name, these names can be used to recognize the same computer within two different domains or within the same domain.
FAQ - What is a default network interface?
A default network interface is the interface provided during installation to communicate with all of the other computers and servers within the CommCell environment.
This interface is also used for the following purposes:

Conducting control communication with the CommServe computer.

Transferring data between clients and MediaAgents.
Can I bind services to a specific network interface card?
Yes, you can bind services to a specific network interface card (NIC) as described in Binding Services to a Specific Network Interface Card.
Does Commvault automatically switch over from a non-functional network interface to a functional one?
No. In situations where an interface fails or becomes non-functional, Commvault does not automatically switch over to a functional network interface.
Can I define data interface pairs when multiple interfaces have the same name?
Yes, but it is necessary to instruct the CommCell components to use a specific network interface card (NIC). You can do this as follows:

Assign a unique name to the NIC in the hosts file of the CommServe server, as well as all other components in the CommCell environment.

Define the data interface pairs that must be used between any two computers using the Data Interface Pairs wizard. See Dedicated Backup Network - Getting Started.
An alternate solution is to provide the IP address of the specific NIC during the creation of a data interface pair.
