Deployment Planning for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization

The Virtual Server Agent (VSA) supports data protection and recovery for virtual machines deployed on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV).

The Virtual Server Agent can be installed on one or more machines, so that those machines can serve as VSA proxies. A VSA proxy manages backup and restore operations for guest VMs in your environment, eliminating the need to install agents on guest VMs.

The Virtual Server Agent is installed on a Linux or Windows virtual machine under the RHEV data center that contains the virtual machines to be protected. Red Hat guest tools must be installed on the VSA proxy machine.

You can configure application-aware backups using the Virtual Server Agent to protect application data without installing guest agents on virtual machines.

A Red Hat virtualization client is defined in the CommCell software to connect to each RHEV Manager.

One or more VSA proxies can be deployed for each Red Hat data center. All VSA proxies for the data centers associated with a RHEV Manager must be added to the Red Hat virtualization client.
