Getting Started with NFS ObjectStore

To get started with Hybrid File Store from the CommCell Console, review the guidelines and requirements, configure the index server, install NFS-Ganesha on Linux MediaAgent, and then configure the CommCell environment.

Step 1: Review the NFS ObjectStore Guidelines and Requirements

• Disk Cache Guidelines

• Required Permissions

• Versioning Rules

  For more information, see NFS ObjectStore Versioning Rules.

• CommCell Network Requirements

  Verify that the CommServe computer, the linux MediaAgent, and the Index server are DNS resolvable and connect to each other. See CommCell Network Requirements.

Step 2: Configure an Index Server Cloud

To configure the Index Server Cloud, install the Web Server or Index Gateway, the High Availability Computing package, and the Index Store package. (The Web Console and Web Server restore cache are not required for NFS ObjectStore.)

After the software is installed, create an HAC cluster, an Index Store pool, and an Index Server cloud. Add the NFS Index role to the Index Server cloud.

Step 3: Install NFS-Ganesha Server and SAMBA Using the CVInstallNetworkServer Tool

The CVInstallNetworkServer tool automatically installs the NFS-Ganesha server and SAMBA on the Linux MediaAgent. For more information, see CVInstallNetworkServer Tool.

If you performed this step successfully, then skip the manual installation instructions in step 4.

Step 4: Configure CentOS 7.3 or RHEL 7.3 and Later Versions as NFS ObjectStore Server

This requires the MediaAgent package and NFS Ganesha 2.6.3 open source software. You can download the required NFS Ganesha version from the Commvault Store.

Download the NFS-Ganesha 2.8.2 for RHEL 7 package, and follow the directions included in the install.txt file.

Step 5: Configure the CommCell Environment

1. Configure the Index Server Cloud.

   Note

   Add the NFS Index role while creating the Index Server Cloud.

2. Configure a storage device.

3. Create a storage policy.

   This storage policy is the one that you will associate with an NFS ObjectStore. You can use the same storage policy for multiple NFS ObjectStore shares, or you can create a unique storage policy for each one.

4. Configure the NFS Cache on the NFS ObjectStore server.

5. Create and manage NFS ObjectStore shares:

   • To manage NFS ObjectStore from the CommCell Console, see NFS ObjectStore Management from the CommCell Console

   • To manage NFS ObjectStore from the command line, see NFS ObjectStore Command Line Interface.
