Inline Replication for the Hitachi Vantara Storage Array

The Hitachi Vantara Replication feature creates a replica copy on a remote array, in addition to the primary snapshot copy on the local array.

When you run a snap backup operation, the snapshot is created on the local array and on the remote array.

The Hitachi Vantara Replication feature supports Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR) asynchronous remote replication and Hitachi TrueCopy synchronous replication.

The Hitachi Vantara VSP using Targetless CCI Engine does not support the replication feature.

Key Features

The key features of the Hitachi Vantara Replication feature are as follows:

  • The primary copy and the replica copy are independent of each other, and can have separate retention policies.

  • The replica copy is crash-consistent.

  • For inline replication, replication is performed only if the subclient on which you run the snapshot operation is associated with the replica copy.

Limitations

The limitations of the Hitachi Vantara Replication feature are as follows:

  • The Hitachi Vantara Replication feature does not support the revert operation for the snapshot copy or for the replica copies.

  • The Hitachi Vantara Replication feature does not support snapshots of clones.

  • For the inline replication feature, the only way to create the HUR replication or the TrueCopy replication is using the Command Control Interface (CCI).
