Installing the MediaAgent on Commvault Appliance A600

Note

Disclaimer:
As of Version 11 SP10, Commvault does not sell the A600, A410 or the A210 Appliance anymore. You can purchase the HyperScale 1.5 Appliance instead. For more information, see HyperScale 1.5 Appliance.

To protect large scale data you can install Commvault Appliance A600 in only the MediaAgent role.

The Commvault Appliance A600 MediaAgent can be configured with Commvault Appliance A600 CommServe or with a non-Commvault Appliance A600 CommServe.

If you want to install the CommServe and the MediaAgent on the Commvault Appliance A600, see stalling the CommServe and MediaAgent on the Commvault Appliance A600.

Before You Begin

Ensure that you have all the installation prerequisites before you begin to install and configure the Commvault Appliance A600 as MediaAgent as described in Preparing for the Commvault Appliance A600 Installation.

Procedure

  1. Turn on the appliance and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to log on to Windows.

  2. In the Administrator box, type appliance@cv1 and press Enter.

The Commvault Configuration Wizard will start automatically after a successful login.

Note: If the wizard does not start automatically, double-click the SimpanaAdministrativeConsoleCommvault Applications icon available in C:\ApplianceInstall\Saphire.

  3. Click License Agreement, review the Commvault End User License Agreement and click Agree.

  4. Follow the instructions in the wizard, which installs and configures the CommServe, MediaAgent, disk library, and global deduplication storage policy.

Global deduplication storage policy enables deduplication across multiple storage policies by using a common set of disk libraries and deduplication database (DDB).

  5. On the Select Network Interfaces page, select one or more of the 10 GigE ports check boxes to configure the network settings for data ingestion and click Next.

Tip: The Select Network Interface page displays all the network ports that have an active connection.

The Commvault Appliance A600 has four 1GigE ports to connect to the E-Series E2712 management ports.

You must directly connect at least two 1GigE ports to the management ports on the E-Series E2712 controller.

  6. Choose how you want to assign the IP address and the DNS server details:

    • If you have the DHCP to automatically assign IP addresses and detect the DNS server, then on the Configure the selected network interface page, ensure that the Obtain the IPV4 address automatically and the Obtain the DNS server address automatically check boxes are selected and click Next.

    • In the absence of a DHCP server, clear the Obtain the IPV4 address automatically and the Obtain the DNS server address automatically checkboxes, type the appropriate details and click Next.

  7. On the Host name and domain settings page, choose whether you want to assign a new host name.

    • To configure the Commvault Appliance A600 in an existing domain, select the Join this appliance to a domain checkbox.

If you do not join an existing domain, the Commvault Appliance A600 remains in the Workgroup.

Type the appropriate domain credentials in the available boxes.

    • To assign a new host name, in the New Host Name field, enter a unique name to identify the computer on the network.

A message prompts you to restart your computer.

Click Yes to confirm the host name change and click OK to restart the computer.

Note: The installation will resume after the computer restart.

  8. Log on to the system using the same credentials that were used earlier.

    Note:

    • Default credentials are required only during the initial installation.

    • After the A600 is installed and configured, you must change the default administrator log on credentials for this system. Fore more information, see Changing the CommCell Administrator Password.

The Commvault Configuration Wizard automatically resumes the configuration process.

  9. On the Commvault software setup page, do the following:

    1. Select MediaAgent only.

    2. Type the CommServe name in the Name of the CommServe system to connect to box.

    3. If client authentication is enabled in the CommServe, type the User Name and Password /Confirm Password to connect to the CommServe. Leave it blank if client authentication is not enabled.

For more information, seeEnabling User Authentication for Installing Agents on the CommCell.

    4. Click Next.

Note: If the CommServe is not on a Commvault Appliance setup, then you must configure a global deduplication storage policy after the installation. For more information, see Creating a Storage Policy with Deduplication.

  10. Click Configure to complete the installation and configuration process.

Note: The configuration process takes approximately 10 minutes. The wizard will install the SQL server Enterprise, Commvault software, CommServe, Virtual Server and File System agents and it will also populate the software and software update cache.

  11. Click Finish.

Configuring Storage Array

  1. After the successful software installation and configuration, the storage array configuration utility is launched automatically.

The utility is used to configure the E-Series E2712 as a Commvault disk library storage.

You will be prompted for a password if the default password was changed using the SANtricity® Storage Manager. (The default password is password.)

  2. Click Configure to automatically configure RAID group and volumes on the storage array.

    Note:

    • After the Storage Array is detected, verify the number of trays and drives.

    • When configuring the array for the first time, the Free Pool Space (GB) and Used Pool Space (GB) displays N/A.

    • You can connect a maximum of 5 shelves to the server.

  3. Click OK to confirm the configuration and exit the wizard.

Note: For each tray with 2 TB drives, the wizard configures 2 mount paths and each mount path has 9 TB space.

For each tray with 4 TB drives, the wizard configures 4 mount paths and each mount path has 9 TB space.
