Job Details (Virtual Machine Status, Instance Status, or Container Status)

The Virtual Machine Status tab of the Job Details dialog box provides information about virtual machines (VMs) in a backup job that is in progress (from Job Controller) or completed (from Backup History).

For some hypervisors, this tab is named Instance Status or Container Status.

Double-click the entry for a virtual machine to view status details for that VM.

  • Instance Name (Amazon, Google Cloud Platform, OpenStack, Oracle Cloud): The name of the instance.

  • VM Name (Azure, Azure Stack, Citrix Xen, FusionCompute, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Oracle VM, Red Hat Virtualization, VMware): The name of the virtual machine.

  • Container Name (Docker): The name of the container.

  • Availability Zone (Amazon): The availability zone where the instance resides.

  • Resource Group (Azure): The resource group to which the virtual machine belongs.

  • Zone (Google Cloud Platform): The zone where the instance resides.

  • Host (Citrix Xen, Docker, FusionCompute, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, OpenStack, Red Hat Virtualization, VMware): The host name for the machine where the source virtual machine or instance resides.

  • User (Oracle Cloud): The user account that owns the instance.

  • Server (Oracle VM): The host name for the machine where the source virtual machine resides.

  • Status (all hypervisors): The status of the backup for the VM, instance, or container (such as COMPLETED, PENDING, or FAILED).

  • Failure Reason (all hypervisors): For failed backups, a brief description of the reason for the failure.

  • Agent (Amazon, Azure, Azure Stack, Docker, FusionCompute, Google Cloud Platform, Nutanix AHV, OpenStack, Oracle Cloud, Oracle VM, Red Hat Virtualization): The name of the VSA proxy that performed the backup.

  • Backup Agent (Hyper-V, Citrix Xen): The name of the agent that performed the backup.

  • VM Archive Management status (VMware): Indicates whether a VM was archived by the backup job.

  • Proxy (VMware): The name of the VSA proxy that performed the backup.

  • Backup Size (all hypervisors): The amount of data backed up after eliminating white spaces; data that was written and deleted still counts as reserved (allocated) space.

  • Backup Start Time (all hypervisors): The date and time that the backup of the VM, instance, or container began.

  • Backup End Time (all hypervisors): The date and time that the backup of the VM, instance, or container finished.

  • Duration (all hypervisors): The total time for the job (end time minus start time).

  • Instance Size (Amazon, Azure, Azure Stack, Google Cloud Platform, OpenStack, Oracle Cloud): The total space allocated for the instance, calculated as the sum of the maximum sizes for all of the instance's disks or volumes. Instance size is usually larger than guest size because volumes might allocate more space than is actually used.

  • VM Size (Azure, Azure Stack, Citrix Xen, FusionCompute, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Oracle VM, Red Hat Virtualization, VMware): The total space allocated for the virtual machine, calculated as the sum of the maximum disk sizes for all of the virtual machine's hard disks. VM size is usually larger than guest size because virtual machine disks are often thin provisioned.

  • Container Size (Docker): The total space allocated for the container.

  • Tools Version (FusionCompute): The version of FusionCompute tools installed on the guest VM.

  • Integration Services (Hyper-V): Whether Microsoft Integration Services is installed and running on the VM.

  • VMware Tools (VMware): Whether VMware Tools is installed and running on the VM.

  • Guest Size (all hypervisors): The actual space used on the storage volume for the virtual machine, instance, or container. For Linux virtual machines, the Guest Size appears as 0.

  • Powered Off by current job (Docker, Hyper-V, VMware): Whether the VM or container was powered off for the backup job.

  • Create Snapshot Duration (VMware): The interval between the time when the vCenter received the create snapshot request and the time when the vCenter responded to indicate that the snapshot was created successfully.

  • Delete Snapshot Duration (VMware): The interval between the time when the vCenter received the delete snapshot request and the time when the vCenter responded to indicate that the snapshot was deleted successfully.

  • Snapshot Size (VMware): The size of the snapshot that was taken for the VM, which includes the aggregated sizes of all delta disk files that are created while the backup was in progress.

  • Operating System (Amazon, Azure, Azure Stack, Citrix Xen, FusionCompute, Google Cloud Platform, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Oracle Cloud, Oracle VM, Red Hat Virtualization, VMware): The operating system version for the VM or instance.

  • Transport Mode (Citrix Xen, FusionCompute, VMware): The transport mode used for jobs.

  • CBT Status (Azure, Azure Stack, FusionCompute, Hyper-V, VMware): Whether Changed Block Tracking (CBT) was enabled for the job.

  • Instance Type (Amazon): The type that defines the compute, memory, storage, and network capabilities of the instance.

  • Machine Type (Google Cloud Platform): The type that defines the disk size, memory, and network capabilities of the container.

  • VM Version (Hyper-V): The version that defines the configuration, saved state, and snapshot file compatibility of a VM.

  • Flavor (OpenStack): The flavor that defines the compute, memory, and storage capacity of the instance.

  • Instance Shape (Oracle Cloud): The shape that defines the type of disk drives used by the instance, including the compute, memory, and network resources.

  • Hardware Version (VMware): The hardware version of the VM.

  • Host Version (VMware): The version of the ESX or ESXi host.

  • Datastore (VMware): The datastore where virtual machine files are stored.

  • Progress (Amazon, Azure, Azure Stack, Citrix Xen, Docker, FusionCompute, Google Cloud Platform, Hyper-V, OpenStack, Oracle Cloud, Oracle VM, Red Hat Virtualization, VMware): The status of backups. For jobs that are not complete, a status bar shows the progress for each VM, instance, or container.

Job Summary Information

The following summary information is shown for the backup job:

  • Total Virtual Machines

    The total number of VMs in the backup job.

  • Successful Virtual Machines

    The number of VMs that were successfully backed up.

  • Skipped Virtual Machines

    The number of VMs that were skipped because they were not not available for backup at the time the job ran.

  • Pending Virtual Machines

    The number of VMs that have not yet been backed up for a job that is in progress.

  • Failed Virtual Machines

    The number of VMs that could not be backed up during the job.

  • Virtual Machines Partially Successful

    The number of VMs that were backed up with errors.

  • Virtual Machines in Progress

    The number of VMs that are currently being backed up for a job that is in progress.
