Microsoft SharePoint Server Agent

The SharePoint Server Agent provides complete protection of on-premises SharePoint farm and documents in your enterprise, and SharePoint online in Office 365. You can use the agent to perform full, differential, incremental, or synthetic full backups depending on the backup set that you want to protect.

In case of a system failure, such as the breakdown of hardware, software, or operating system, the SharePoint Server Agent provides point-in-time recovery of the farm or document with all metadata intact. This type of recovery ensures that the state of the SharePoint farm or document is as it existed at the time of backup, and it is ready for use whenever necessary.

Protect All SharePoint Components

All SharePoint entities that exist on the Windows File System and IIS components related to SharePoint are protected.

RBS-Aware Backup for Content Database

Content database backups are fully RBS aware* and protect RBS blobs along with their corresponding content databases.

*Support only Microsoft provided File Stream RBS provider.

Application-Aware Backups for Microsoft SharePoint Server Agent

For SharePoint agent, you can perform application-aware backups from a VSA subclient, then recover granular data by performing mining from a SQL Server database client that is associated with the SharePoint application.

For more information, see Application-Aware Backups for Microsoft SharePoint.

Always On Availability Groups

Content database backups are Always On Availability aware. Create an Always On Availability Group (AG) client and add Availability Group databases to the AG client to protect databases on SQL Server 2012 and later in the event of a database failure. The AG client protects a set of user databases (also known as availability databases) that fail over together, and provides a single entry point to perform backups and restores.

For more information, see Always On MSSQL Availability Groups Support for SharePoint Agent.

Web Console and End User Interface

End users can access and manage their documents or files from any remote computer that runs a Java-enabled web browser by using a web-based application called the Web Console. The console is a self-service application that enables end users to perform browse, restore, and download operations.

For more information, see Web Console for End-User Recovery.

Automatic Discovery of Applications

You can use the Auto discover applications option to automatically find SharePoint databases in your environment and install software to back up the SharePoint databases. For more information, see Automatic Discovery of Applications.
