NetApp Archiving: System Requirements

The File System Core and File System packages are installed on a computer that acts as a proxy computer or data access node. The proxy computer sends the recall requests to the NAS file server.

File Servers

The File Archiver for NetApp Agent can perform data protection/recovery operations for data on the following file server versions:

  • ONTAP version 7.0

  • ONTAP version 7.0.2

  • ONTAP version 7.1

  • ONTAP version 7.1.2.1

  • ONTAP version 7.2

  • ONTAP version 7.3

  • ONTAP version 8.0 (7-Mode supported)

  • ONTAP version 8.0.2 (7-Mode supported)

  • ONTAP version 8.1 (7-Mode supported)

  • ONTAP version 8.2 (7-Mode supported)

  • ONTAP version 8.2.2 or later (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.1 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.2 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.3 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.4 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.5 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.6 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.7 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.8 (Cluster-Mode)

  • ONTAP version 9.9.1 (Cluster-Mode)

  • vFiler

For versions earlier than 7.0 and version 7.1, a Network File Share Instance type must be used.

Note

Each File Archiver for Windows agent can support multiple NetApp file servers, which have the same ONTAP version, whereas a separate File Archiver for Windows agent is required for each ONTAP version.

Proxy and Data Access Node

The following requirements are for the proxy computer for NetApp archiving:

The proxy computer and the data access node can be the same same computer or a different one.

Note

For optimal recall performance, it is recommended to use separate machine for FPolicy proxy server.

In addition, number of archived files * 4 KB space is required for stub cache directory on the recall proxy computer.

500 MB of free disk space is required for log directory.

Notes

  • For a proxy FPolicy server on a Windows 2008 or 2012 computer, the file server must use ONTAP version 8.0.2 and later. However, if you are using an ONTAP version older than 8.0.2, then the proxy FPolicy server must be configured on a Windows 2003 computer.

  • Ensure that the Fpolicy Proxy computers selected as the primary client and secondary client are in the same domain as that of the file server. For more information, see Configuring F-Policy Proxy and Data Access Nodes.

Miscellaneous

Note: To back up and restore data in an IPv6 environment, see Configuring IPv6 for OnePass and CommCell Network Internet Protocol Requirements.

For standalone installs of File Share Archiver Clients, it is required to have the .NET Framework 2.0 Redistributable Package installed on the computer.

.NET Framework

.NET Framework 4.0 is automatically installed. Note that .NET Framework 4.0 can co-exist with other versions of this software.

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 is Automatically Installed

Starting in Service Pack 18, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 (vcredist2017.exe) is automatically installed. If a computer does not have the latest Windows updates, the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 will fail in installing Universal C Runtime.

The following Windows updates must be installed to prevent the installation failure:

KB2919355

KB2939087

KB2975061

KB2999226

Updates are not required on latest Windows operating system versions, such as Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows Server 2016, as these versions come with the Universal C Runtime already installed.
