You can perform a start over operation on storage policies that automatically converts the next backup job to a full backup job for all the subclients. This operation helps you to recover from widespread media corruption.
Note
For a global deduplication storage policy (GDSP), the start over operation is applicable to all the storage policies (primary copies) and the secondary copies that are dependent on the GDSP.
Procedure
-
From the CommCell Browser, go to Policies > Storage Policies.
-
Right-click the storage policy that you want to perform a start over operation for, and then go to All Tasks > Start Over.
The Start Over dialog box appears. The message in the dialog box depends on the type of storage policy that you selected, as follows:
-
If you selected a nondeduplicated storage policy, the message is as follows:
-
If you selected a deduplicated storage policy, the message is as follows:
-
If you selected a storage policy that is dependent on a GDSP, the message is as follows:
-
-
Click Continue to perform the operation.
The Enter Confirmation text dialog box appears.
-
Type the text that is in quotation marks to confirm that you want to run the operation.
-
Click OK.
The Information dialog box appears.
Results
The results of the operation depend on the type of storage policy that you performed the start over operation for, as follows:
-
If you selected a nondeduplicated storage policy, the software performs a full backup on all servers that are associated with the storage policy.
-
If you selected a deduplicated storage policy, the procedure seals the DDB and creates a new deduplication baseline. The new baseline requires more storage than the previous baseline.
-
If you selected a storage policy that is dependent on a GDSP, the procedure seals the DDB and creates a new deduplication baseline. The new baseline requires more storage than the previous baseline. This operation also effects all the storage policies that are dependent on the GDSP.
