Restore Options (General)

Use this dialog box to control how the specified data is to be restored. This dialog box is also used for selecting options related to scheduled or non-scheduled search and restore operations.

Restore ACLs

Specifies that the backed up Access Control Lists (ACLs) will be restored. Files will inherit the ACLs from the parent or an ancestor directory if the parent or the ancestor directory is configured to set the ACLs recursively for the directories below it. Clear this option to restore without ACLs.

Data in device node

Specifies if data in the raw device nodes is to be restored.

Unconditionally overwrite only if target is a DataArchiver stub

Specifies whether a stub will be unconditionally overwritten during restore.

Overwrite Files

  • Overwrite if file in backup is newer

If selected, this option will overwrite the existing file with the file that was backed up/archived to the media provided the backed up/archived file is newer than the existing file.

  • Unconditional Overwrite

Specifies whether the restored data is unconditionally written to the specified location.

    If cleared:

    • Files/directories whose names are the same as those in the restore path and where the backed up data is as old or older are not restored.

    • Files/directories whose names are the same as those in the restore path and where the backed up data is newer are restored.

    • Files/directories whose names are different from those in the restore path are restored.

      Note

Avoid using this option whenever you run a Restore by Jobs. Otherwise, an older version of the files might be retrieved.

  • Restore only if target exists

If selected, this option will only restore files that currently exist in the restore path. Files that exist on the media but not in the restore path will not be restored.

Restore data instead of stub

If selected, data will be restored instead of stubs.

Restore Destination

  • Destination Client/Proxy Client

Displays the name of the client computer to which the selected data will be restored. To change the destination computer or the proxy computer, select one from the list. The list includes clients:

    • Which are established as clients within the CommCell.

    • Clients with Operating Systems that support the cross-platform restore operation from this client. (Refer to the topic titled Cross Platform Restore Operations in Books Online for additional information.)

By default, data is restored to the same computer from which it was backed up.

  • Number of Streams

Specifies the recommended number of simultaneous data streams to use for the restore job.

Note: The actual number of streams used depends on the restore data set and the number of streams used to back up data.

  • Use Multiple Nodes

Specifies whether multiple nodes will be used for the restore job. Use multi-node restores only when you want to perform restores to distributed or network file systems such as NFS and CIFS mounted across multiple machines. Click Advanced, and then on the Advanced Restore Options - Data Access Nodes tab, select the nodes for the restore job.

Note: The destination volume must be shared across all the restore nodes and it must be accessible from all the nodes.

  • Restore to Same Folder

Select this option to restore in the same folder where the data already exists. If this option is selected you will be unable to specify any other destination path.

To configure a prompt for user confirmation if you select the overwrite options and perform an in-place restore by selecting this option, create the bEnableConfirmMessageForRestoreToSameFolderWithOverwrite additional setting on the client computer and set the value to true.

For instructions on adding the additional settings from the CommCell Console, see Add or Modify an Additional Setting.

  • Specify Destination Path

This option is available when the destination client is not the same as the host client. Click Browse to select a path for the destination folder. Alternatively, you may enter the path.

On UNIX computers, specify the NFS path (e.g., /finite/nftest/test).

Preserve Source Paths

Specifies the action taken when the data is restored to another destination. The options are available only when the Restore to same folder option is cleared.

  • Preserve n levels from end of the source path

Specifies whether the restore operation must keep the specified number of levels at the end of source path of the selected data. For example, if the selected data is documents/memos/sales, this option is set to 1 and the destination folder is temp, the data will be recovered as /temp/sales.

However, if this option is used to restore a file in a path that contains any valid wildcard expression (e.g., documents/**/sales), the default value of 1 for the option cannot be changed. Therefore, only the last found occurrence of the file is recovered, and the recovered data for all the other occurrences of the file are overwritten.

  • Remove n levels from beginning of the source path

Specifies whether the restore operation must remove the specified number of levels from the beginning of source path of the selected data. For example, if the selected data is documents/memos/sales, this option is set to 1 and the destination folder is /temp, the data will be recovered as /temp/memos/sales.

Impersonate User

Select this option to restore files as the impersonated user. For out-of-place restores, the user must have the necessary privileges to write to the destination directory.

User Name

In this box, type the user name.

Password

In this box, specify the password for the user account .

Confirm Password

In this box, confirm the password for the user account.

Destination Client (Applicable for Volume-level Restore)

Displays the name of the client computer to which the selected data will be restored. To change the destination computer, select one from the list.

Restore to same source mount point (Applicable for Volume-level Restore)

Select this option to restore data by overwriting to the same mount point or volume on the source client where data already exists. If you select a different destination client and select this option then data is restored to the same mount point or volume on the destination client. If no volume with this name exists on the destination computer, the restore will fail.

Restore Paths and Destinations (Applicable for Volume-level Restore)

Lists the volume to be restored and the destination volume. If no destination volume is specified, the system attempts to restore to a volume with the same name as the one being restored. If no volume with this name exists on the destination computer, the restore will fail.

Note: For Volume Level Restores, the volume's file system is overwritten with the restored file system. Consequently, any data that was on the volume before the restore operation is lost.

Destination Volume (Applicable for Volume-level Restore)

Specifies the volume to which the data will be restored. The destination volume must meet all of the criteria for volumes that are backed up by the File System iDataAgent. The target volume must be at least as large as the volume from which the data was backed up. Only the CXBF configured volumes are available for restore.

Specify a destination volume, or click Browse to browse and select one; once you have specified or selected a destination volume, click Add and then click Close.

Advanced

Click to select additional restore options.

Save As Script

Click to open the Save As Script dialog, which allows you to save this operation and the selected options as a script file (in XML format). The script can later be executed from the Command Line Interface using qoperation execute command.

When you save an operation as a script, each option in the dialog will have a corresponding XML parameter in the script file. When executing the script, you can modify the value for any of these XML parameters.

For more information on restores performed from the command line, see Command Line Interface for UNIX File System iDataAgent.
