You can restore Exchange Mailbox Agent index server out of place to a different location. For example, you can move the index server to a larger disk drive without reconstructing the index.
Procedure

In the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computer Groups > Index Servers > index_server > Big Data Apps > defaultInstanceName.

Right-click the subclient, and then click Browse and Restore.
The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

Click View Content.

In the left pane, expand to defaultInstanceName, and then select Exchange Index.

Click Recover All Selected.
The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

From the Destination client list, select the index server.

Clear the Restore to same folder check box, and then specify the location where you want to restore the index.

Click OK.

After the restore completes, stop the services on the index server.

Install the Index Store package as a new instance on the index server node. For more information, see Enabling Multi-Instance Installations.

Create a new index server by selecting the index directory folder where you restored the index in step 9. For more information, see Creating an Index Server for the Exchange Mailbox Agent.

Change the index server on the Exchange client. For more information, see Changing the Index Server for the Exchange Mailbox Agent.

Run an archiving job so that any jobs that were in a pending state are committed to the index.

Browse the messages to verify that all the messages appear as expected.
