Scheduling Backups for VMware Destination VMs after a Failover

After virtual machines have failed over to a secondary site, you can schedule backups for the destination virtual machines. Having backups of destination VMs supports the ability to fail back to the original site or to a new primary site.

Note

You can only modify destination network settings for Windows VMs as part of Live Sync operations. Linux VMs are restored without network connections.

Before You Begin

To schedule destination virtual machines for backup, the Failover/Failback Status for the virtual machines in the Live Sync Monitor must be Failover Complete or Failback Failed.

Procedure

  1. Open the Live Sync Monitor tab from the instance, backup set, or subclient:

    • From the instance, right-click VMware and select Live Sync Monitor.

    • From the backup set, right-click the backup set and select All Tasks > Live Sync > Monitor.

    • From the subclient, right-click the subclient and select Live Sync > Monitor.

  2. On the Live Sync Monitor tab, select the rows for one or more virtual machines, right-click and point to Backup Destination VM.

    Note

The selected virtual machines must be in the same subclient.

  3. In the Schedule Details dialog box, enter a name for the schedule and specify the schedule for backups.

For more information about schedule options, see Scheduling - Getting Started.

  4. Click OK.

  5. To view the backup schedule for a destination VM, right-click the subclient for the VM and click Schedules.
