Sending Log Files

You can send CommCell system and client information, such as database logs, client logs, updates, and configuration details to one or more email recipients. You can also save the log files to a local or network location. The location must have a free space of double the size of Commserve database.

Log File Locations

By default, log files are sent to https://logs.commvault.com/webconsole.

The Install folder location is included by default in the log information and appears in the AllUsersProfile.7z file.

Data Masking

If you select the Scrub Log Files option to mask sensitive data, the CommServe database, the CommServe log files, the client computer log files, and the MediaAgent log files will all contain masked data. This means that the database dump contains only masked data.

Important

Data masking is supported only for the CommServe Database option. Even if you select other databases, the data is not masked.

The Send Log Files Scrub Map Report maps the masked entity names to the names in the CommCell environment. To download and view this report, see Send Log Files Scrub Map.

Before You Begin

If you want to send email notifications regarding the send log files operation, you must configure a mail server in the CommCell Console. For instructions, see E-Mail Server Configuration.

Caution

Log files can be large files, and emails with large file attachments are often rejected by email servers.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console, right-click the CommServe, point to All Tasks, and then select Send Log Files.

The Send Log Files dialog box appears.

  2. On the Computers tab, in the Computers list, select the computers for which you want to send log files.

  3. On the CommCell Information tab, select the CommCell logs to be uploaded from the following list:

    • Get Latest Database(s)

If you select this option, a disaster recovery job will run on the CommServ database, and the logs from that disaster recovery job will be sent.

  5. On the Output tab, configure the location where you want to send the log files:

    • To send the log files to the default HTTPS location, leave the Upload to HTTPS check box selected.

    • To save the log files to a local or network location, select the Output To checkbox, select Local Path or Network Path, and then click Browse to select the folder path. If you select Network and need access to the network path, click Impersonate, and then specify the user account.

    • To send log files as an email attachment, select the Attach logs to E-mails (not recommended) check box.

    • To split large log files into smaller file chunks during the upload process, leave the Enable Chunking check box selected. To change the size of the file chunks, beside Chunk File Size, enter a number.

For more information about the settings you can configure on this tab, see Options in the Send Log Files Dialog Box.

  6. Optional: Configure an email notification about sending the log files:

    2. In the Available Users and User Groups list, select the users who should receive the log files, and then click the right arrow button (>).

    3. In the Additional Recipients box, type the email addresses for additional users who are not part of the CommCell Group.
