Setting Network Bandwidth Throttling for a Storage Policy Copy

You can set the network bandwidth throttling at the storage policy copy level. During this configuration, you can limit the network throughput consumed by an auxiliary copy operation. The default limit is 500 megabytes per hour.

Setting the throttling for a storage policy copy applies only to auxiliary copy jobs. Remember that throttling rules cannot be scheduled.

Tip

The most common throttling configuration is to set network bandwidth throttling between two clients. This configuration allows you to set a schedule (time of day, days of week) for the throttling to take effect. For more information, see Enabling and Configuring Bandwidth Throttling for Clients or Client Groups.

Before You Begin

If the source and the destination MediaAgent is same, then you must configure the ThrottleLanFreeSDT additional setting to honor the values set for Network Bandwidth Throttling. For more information on configuring an additional settings, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies > storage_policy.

  2. Right-click the storage_policy_copy, and then click Properties.

    Important

Do not select a storage policy with a Copy Type of "Primary".

  3. On the Advanced tab, select the Throttle Network Bandwidth (MB/HR) check box and then enter the bandwidth limit.

    Note

This option is available only for storage policy copies that do not have a Copy Type of "Primary".

  4. Click OK.

    Note

Once you configure Throttle Network Bandwidth and assign specific value, during an Auxiliary Copy operation, the Auxiliary Copy Job Details for Job ID dialog box indicates that the size in Current Throughput (GB/Hr), set on the Streams tab, may display higher than the amount of size specified in Throttle Network Bandwidth. This is because the size displayed in the Current Throughput (GB/Hr) column uses Throttle Network Bandwidth.
