Setting Up Connections from the Port-Forwarding Gateway to the CommServe Computer

You must set up the CommServe computer to listen for connections from the gateway. When the gateway receives connections from outside the network, the gateway will forward the connections to the CommServe computer.

Before You Begin

  • The CommServe computer must be available behind the gateway.

  • The following port-forwarding must be configured on the gateway as follows:

    • Connections to the gateway on port 443 must be forwarded to the CommServe computer (running internally) on port 440.

    • Connections to the gateway on port 444 must be forwarded to the MediaAgents (running internally) on port 440.

      Note

There is no restriction on the internal port numbers. Also, for clients in the internal network, neither the IP addresses nor the names have to be reachable or resolvable from outside the network.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers, right-click the CommServe computer, and then click Properties.

The Client Computer Properties dialog box appears.

  2. Click Network.

The Network Properties for Client dialog box appears.

  3. On the Network Route Configuration tab, select the Configure Network Route Settings check box.

  4. On the Incoming Ports tab, select the Override default tunnel port check box, enter 440 (CommServe port number), and then click OK.

The gateway will forward connections to commserve.company.com:440 when the gateway receives connections from outside on port 443.

  5. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe computer, and then click All Tasks > Push Network Configuration.

  6. Read the warning, click Continue, and then click OK.

  7. Verify that your network configuration pushed successfully by checking the Event Viewer window.

What to Do Next

  1. Install the Commvault software on one or more clients. For network settings instructions during the installation, see Setting Up Connectivity to the CommServe Computer Through a Port-Forwarding Gateway.

  2. Configure the CommServe computer to recognize the client connections through the port-forwarding gateway. For more information, see Configuring the CommServe Computer.
