Snapshot Configuration Properties of the Dell EMC PowerMax/VMAX3/VMAX/Symmetrix Storage Array

The Snap Configuration tab contains properties that control the behavior of the storage array in your environment.

Note

: The Commvault software creates a device group named CV_Protection_Group.

Property

Description

Use target devices from Host Device Group

The host device group name from which you must select the target device.

The default name of the device group is CV_Protection_Group.

Use target devices from Host Device Group of Source deviceDecoupled instant clone : When selected, creates decoupled Instant Clone

Use SnapVX target devices from storage group : Specifies the Storage group name from which SnapVX target devices needs to be selected.

Select this option to use the target devices from the device group of the source device. The device group that you specify in Use target devices from Host Device Group is ignored. Instead, the device group where the source device is present is used. The target device is selected from the same device group.

Tip

You must clear the Move source and target devices to chosen Host Device Group property. If you select Use target devices from Host Device Group of Source device and Move source and target devices to chosen Host Device Group, then the behavior is unknown.

Use ungrouped devices if required

When you select this option, if the device group doesn't have enough target devices, then you can group new target devices into the device group, .

If you don't select this option, then the selection is limited to devices in the group. If the device group doesn't have enough target devices, then the job fails with the following error message:

No suitable device found. Please add devices to the device group [].

Move source and target devices to chosen Host Device Group

Select this option to move the source device or the target device to a host device group that you specify.

If you don't select this option, then devices are moved according to whether you also select Use target devices from Host Device Group of Source device:

  • If you select Use target devices from Host Device Group of Source device, then the target is selected from the source device group and no devices are moved.

  • If you don't select Use target devices from Host Device Group of Source device, then the specified device group name in device group name Use target devices from Host Device Group is used to select target devices. In this case, the target device and the source device are not moved to the device group.

Use Precopy for TimeFinder/Clone

Select this option to run a clone with Precopy, and to mount snapshots immediately for cataloging. This option initiates data copying in the background before actually activating the clone session.

If you don't select this option, then the entire copy must be complete before you can mount the snapshot for cataloging, and jobs take longer to complete. However, when the job is complete, all the data is copied to the clone.

Use Enginuity Consistency Assist

Select this option to use Enginuity Consistency Assist, which stalls write I/O to devices during split, clone, and snapshot operations to guarantee that the data is write-consistent.

Use SAVE Device Pool

A SAVE Device Pool that you can use for EMC TimeFinder/Snap data.

Do not map/unmap devices and use spouse device only

Select this option to restrict map operations and unmap operations for target devices, and to use only paired devices as target devices.

Do not unmap devices during unmount (do only masking)

Select this option to restrict unmap during unmount operation.

Host WWPNs to use for Masking*

Specifies a comma-separated list of ports WWNs for mapping a snap.

Masking Views to use*

Remote Snap MA*

The client name of the MediaAgent that you want to designate as the Remote Snap MediaAgent.

Use Smart Revert*

Enables immediate mounting of the source device, while the restore copy continues in the background. The restore session is terminated in subsequent mount, unmount, revert, or delete operations for the source target device pair.

SMIS Server Port*

Specifies the value for the SMIS server port for the array.

Use secure connection to SMIS Server*

Select this option to use SSL for the SMIS connection.

SMIS connection timeout (in seconds)*

Specifies the SMIS connection timeout (in seconds). Default value is 300.

Do not create SRDF/Metro secondary snap

If selected, no SRDF/Metro secondary snapshots are taken, even if the source LUNs are configured as SRDF/Metro. The default value is clear.

Decoupled instant clone

When selected, creates decoupled instant clone.

Use SnapVX target devices from storage group

Specifies the storage group name from which SnapVX target devices can be selected.
