Specifying a Date for Selecting Backups for the Copy

By default, all backups from the source storage policy copy are copied to a secondary copy. This backup selection date determines the effective start date where the storage policy copy will become active. However you can select backups to be copied after a specific date.

When you associate a new subclient to a secondary copy, the auxiliary copy operation automatically picks up the jobs that are run after the association.

However, if the job is an incremental backup job, the software picks up any previous incremental backup jobs and full backup job from the current cycle. For a CommServe upgraded from a Service Pack earlier to SP20, you must perform a qoperation to enable picking the jobs from the current cycle for an incremental backup job. For instructions, see Configuring the Picking of Jobs from the Current Cycle for a Subclient.

Applies to: Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Parallel Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>.

  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, and click Properties.

  3. In the Copy Properties dialog box, click the Copy Policy tab, select the following settings and then click OK.

    1. Clear All backups checkbox.

    2. Select a date from the Backups On And After.

This date can be on, before, or after the current CommServe date. When the date entered is after the current CommServe date, jobs that are to be copied, as well as partially copied jobs will be disabled for copy.

You can only move the Backups On And After Date forward for a storage policy copy once it has been defined. This date must be a date which occurs after the date you originally selected.

If you change the Backups On And After Date to a date after the one selected, all backups that were to be copied from the primary copy before the new date will not be copied when an auxiliary copy is run.
