Throttling Throughput to Cloud Storage Using a Workflow

You can setup the Cloud Upload and Download Throttling Control workflow to throttle the maximum read and write throughputs to cloud storage at certain periods on a MediaAgent or a list of MediaAgents. This workflow can be scheduled to run at the beginning of the throttle period to enable throttling and at the end of the throttle period to disable throttling.

Before You Begin

You require the following permissions to execute the workflow:

  • Workflow execution permission to execute the workflow

  • Library Management permission on the cloud libraries

  • Agent Management permission on the MediaAgent client entity for MediaAgent associated with the library chosen

  • Agent Management permission on the client computer

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Workflows.

  2. Download the Cloud Upload and Download Throttling Control from the Commvault Store.

For more information about downloading the workflow, see Downloading Workflows from the Commvault Store.

  3. Right-click Cloud Upload and Download Throttling Control, and click All Tasks > Deploy to deploy the workflow

  4. Right-click Cloud Upload and Download Throttling Control again, and click All Tasks > Execute to run the workflow.

The Cloud Upload and Download Throttling Control Options dialog box appears.

  5. From the entities listed under Perform throttling on, select the entity that you want to perform throttling on.

    • Service Host for Cloud Library: Throttle the network bandwidth on service host of cloud libraries.

    • MediaAgent: Throttle the cloud network bandwidth on MediaAgents.

    • Client Computer Group: Throttle the cloud network bandwidth on client computers groups.

  6. If you selected the option Service Host for Cloud Library, then from the list of Cloud Libraries, select the cloud libraries to throttle on. You can filter the MediaAgents associated with the cloud library from the MediaAgents list. Also, if you select client computer groups from the Client Computer Groups list, then any MediaAgents of selected client groups that are associated with the cloud library are also throttled on.

  7. If you selected the option MediaAgent, then from the MediaAgents list, select the MediaAgents to perform throttling on.

  8. If you selected the option Client Computer Group, then from the Client Computer Groups list, select the client computer groups that are associated to MediaAgents or storage accelerator clients that you want to perform throttling on.

  9. Enter the following parameters to start the throttling:

    • In the Throttle Network Upload Bandwidth (MB/HR) box, set the maximum number of bytes (in MB) to send per hour for all upload processes.

    • In the Throttle Network Download Bandwidth (MB/HR) box, set the maximum number of bytes (in MB) to receive per hour for all download processes.

For example, type 100, to throttle the bandwidth to 100 MB per hour.

  10. Enter the following parameters to end the throttling:

    • To end the throttling for uploading data, select the Remove Throttling on Network Upload Bandwidth checkbox

    • To end the throttling for downloading data, select the Remove Throttling on Network Download Bandwidth checkbox.

  11. Click the Advanced button to schedule the workflow.

For more information about scheduling the workflow, see Scheduling a Workflow.
