Verifying the Status of Commvault Services Using the Network Test Tool

You can use the tool to check whether Commvault services are running on a client.

On Windows clients, the tool runs as a graphical user interface. On UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh clients, the tool runs as a menu-driven interface.

Before You Begin

Make sure that the client where you run the tool and the target client that you want to check are registered with the same CommServe computer.

Procedure

Follow the steps that correspond to the operating system of your client.

On Windows

  1. Go to the Software_Installation_Directory/Base directory and double-click CVNetworkTestTool.

The Network Test Tool dialog box appears.

Note: If you have more than one Commvault instance on the target client, go to the Software_Installation_Directory/Base directory of the respective instance to open the tool. The tool is available on every instance.

  2. In the Input section on the Service Check tab, type the host name and the client name of the target client.

  3. In the Options section, make sure that the selected check boxes are associated with the type of Commvault services that you want to check. For example, if you only want to check the CommServe services associated with the target client, keep the CommServe check box selected and clear the other check boxes.

If none of the check boxes are selected, the tool will retrieve the status for all services.

  4. If the CVD and ClMgrS ports in the target client use different port numbers (other than 8400 and 8402, respectively), click Settings and specify the appropriate port numbers.

  5. Click Submit.

The tool displays the following results:

    • The Output section displays the status of the Commvault services.

    • The Log section displays the log details of the service check request. You can copy and paste the log contents.

On UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh

  1. At the command prompt, go to the Software_Installation_Directory/Base directory and run the following command:

    ./CvNetworkTestTool

A list of menu options appear for the Network Test tool.

  2. In the Choose Mode section, enter 2 and press Enter.

  3. If you want to modify some of the service check options, locate the Advanced Settings section and perform one or more of the following steps:

    • To specify the name of the target client, enter 4 and press Enter.

    • If you want to specify a different port number for the CVD port in the target client, enter 5 and press Enter to specify the port number. By default, port 8400 is used.

    • If you want to specify a port number for the ClMgrS port in the target client, enter 6 and press Enter. By default, dynamic port numbers are used.

    • If you want to exclude one or two Commvault service types from the verification, enter the appropriate toggle option and press Enter. For example, if you only want to check the CommServe and MediaAgent services associated with the target client, enter 9 and press Enter to exclude the client services.

  4. In the Client Mode Menu section, enter 1 and press Enter.

  5. Enter the host name or IP address of the target client and press Enter.

The tool displays the status of the Commvault services.

  6. If you want to perform another operation, enter y and press Enter. To exit the tool, enter n and press Enter.
