Configuring Automatic Scaling for Amazon Web Services Access Nodes

To set up automatic scaling for AWS access nodes, you must create and configure some entities in the Command Center.

  • A server for orchestrating automatic scaling operations for the AWS hypervisor

  • An empty server group for creating and decommissioning access nodes

  • A one-way, direct-connection (server-to-client) network topology

  • An hypervisor for the AWS IAM Admin user account

  • If your environment has multiple AWS accounts, a hypervisor for each AWS tenant account

Procedure

  1. On the Command Center Server page, verify that you have a server that represents either an on-premises access node or an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) access node that has the Commvault Virtual Server Agent package.

    The software uses this access node for orchestrating automatic scaling operations for the AWS hypervisor.

    If you don't already have a server for the on-premises access node or the EC2 access node, then add a server using the Virtual Server package. If you want to use an EC2 access node, then you must authenticate using an IAM role.

  2. Create an empty server group.

    The software use this empty server group for creating and decommissioning access nodes. You will select this server group when you configure the hypervisor for automatic scaling:

    1. In the Name box, enter a name for the server group, and then select Manual Association.

      Important: Do not select any servers. The server group must be empty.

    2. Click Save.

  3. Create a one-way direct connection (server-to-client) network topology so that the access node and the server group can communicate.

    • From the Servers list, select the on-premises access node or the EC2 access node.

    • From the DMZ servers list, select the empty server group.

  4. Add a hypervisor for the AWS IAM Admin user account.

  5. For environments that have multiple AWS accounts, add a hypervisor for each AWS tenant account and refer to the settings in the AWS IAM Admin account.

  6. Configure the hypervisor for automatic scaling.
